System And Method For Implementing Xoip Over Ansi-136-A Circuit/Switched/Packet-Switched Mobile Communications Networks

View page
US Patent:
6434140, Aug 13, 2002
Filed:
Oct 8, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/415907
Inventors:
Peter Barany - McKinney TX
Jayshree Bharatia - Plano TX
Assignee:
Nortel Networks Limited - St. Laurent
International Classification:
H04L 1266
US Classification:
370352, 370401, 370410, 370466
Abstract:
The SS7 interface of a conventional GPRS-136 or GPRS-136HS network is replaced with an IP interface. An IP interface is placed between the ANSI TIA/EIA-41 circuit-switched network and the GPRS-136 packet-switched network. This interface can handle both signaling and bearer traffic and thereby overcomes the limitations imposed by the current SS7 interface, which can handle only signaling.

Abstract:
An apparatus, system and method for call forwarding when roaming from a first type network, such as an ANSI-41 cellular network, to a second type network, such as a GSM cellular network. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a signaling message converter signals an originating MSC in a local communication system to redirect a call when a terminating foreign MSC cannot terminate the call due to predetermined circumstances.

End-To-End Quality Of Service Guarantee In A Wireless Environment

View page
US Patent:
6708034, Mar 16, 2004
Filed:
Sep 13, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/661112
Inventors:
Sanjoy Sen - Plano TX
Jayshree Bharatia - Plano TX
Assignee:
Nortel Networks Ltd. - St. Laurent
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455445, 455446, 4554221, 4555542, 370328, 370401
Abstract:
A mobile station communicates with an RSVP-aware network over an air interface standard that has a wireless quality of service standard. The mobile station transmits an RSVP message to an end terminal through the networks RSVP-enabled routers. The end terminal transmits an RESV response message back to the mobile station. A base station controller intercepts this message and sets up the wireless resources if possible.

Terminal Roaming Operations Between Intergenerational Wireless Networks

View page
US Patent:
6763233, Jul 13, 2004
Filed:
Dec 22, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/748076
Inventors:
Jayshree A. Bharatia - Plano TX
Assignee:
Nortel Networks Limited - St. Laurent
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455433, 4554351, 4554321, 370338, 370352
Abstract:
A method for supporting operation of mobile terminal having a subscription in a packet switched wireless network within a legacy wireless network when the mobile terminal roams into the service area of the legacy network. The mobile terminal sends an attach request to a support node of the legacy wireless network. The legacy wireless network then authenticates the mobile terminal. Next, the support node of the legacy wireless network interacts with the packet switched wireless network to receive the mobile terminals subscriber data. The home subscriber service function of the packet switched wireless network then interacts with a prior support node to cancel the wireless terminals prior location. The support node of the legacy wireless network next requests a visitor location register of the legacy wireless network to register the mobile terminal. The visitor location register of the legacy wireless network then interacts with the packet switched wireless network to register the mobile terminal within the legacy wireless network.

Communications Using Adaptive Multi-Rate Codecs

View page
US Patent:
7072336, Jul 4, 2006
Filed:
May 4, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/848902
Inventors:
Peter A. Barany - McKinney TX, US
Jayshree A. Bharatia - Plano TX, US
Chandra Sekhar Bontu - Nepean, CA
Assignee:
Nortel Networks Limited - St. Laurent
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370389, 37039521
Abstract:
A communications network includes a data network that is coupled to a wireless access network and other devices. The wireless access network enables access by mobile stations of the data network. Each mobile station, and optionally, one or more of other devices coupled to the data network, contains an adaptive multi-rate codec (coder/decoder) that can be set to operate at a plurality of rates. Based on the selected one of the plurality of rates, the mobile station or other device sets a quality-of-service (QoS) indicator value in a packet carrying data, such as real-time data, over the wireless access network and/or data network. By varying QoS requirements using the QoS indicator value for different codec rates, bandwidth requirements are varied so that more efficient usage of the data network is provided.

Proxy Sip Server Interface For Session Initiation Communications

View page
US Patent:
7136635, Nov 14, 2006
Filed:
Mar 10, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/385352
Inventors:
Jayshree Bharatia - Plano TX, US
Marvin Bienn - Dallas TX, US
Kuntal Chowdhury - Plano TX, US
Assignee:
Nortel Networks Limited - St. Laurant
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
4554221, 370912, 370913
Abstract:
The present invention supports a message protocol on a wireless communication network between the access gateway and the proxy session initiation server. Upon disruption of a communication session with a mobile station, an information packet indication disruption of the communication session is transmitted from the access gateway to the proxy session initiation protocol server. Upon receipt of the information packet, the proxy session initiation server initiates a resource release procedure freeing network resources supporting the communication session. The proxy session initiation server releases the resources and transmits an information packet to the serving session initiation server, which also initiates a release procedure. Answer and acknowledgement messages are also sent in response to the release request and/or the release of resources.

Assigning A Dynamic Home Agent For A Mobile Network Element

View page
US Patent:
7382748, Jun 3, 2008
Filed:
Mar 20, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/102171
Inventors:
Jayshree Bharatia - Plano TX, US
Kuntal Chowdhury - Plano TX, US
Assignee:
Nortel Networks Limited - St. Laurent, Quebec
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
H04Q 7/00
US Classification:
370331, 370328, 370352, 370401, 4554122, 455433
Abstract:
To dynamically assign a home agent to a mobile node, a foreign server (e. g. , foreign Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting or AAA server) in the visited network sends a first request to a home server (e. g. , a home AAA server) to check local policy regarding assigning the home agent in the visited network. The home server responds with an answer. In response to the answer the foreign server sends a home agent request to a node in the visited network to indicate that the node is to be assigned the home agent.

Call Clearing For Legacy Mobile Circuit Switched Domain Wireless Systems

View page
US Patent:
7436817, Oct 14, 2008
Filed:
Dec 20, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/326324
Inventors:
Marvin Bienn - Dallas TX, US
Jayshree A. Bharatia - Plano TX, US
Amy Pendleton - Dallas TX, US
Assignee:
Nortel Networks Limited - St. Laurent, Quebec
International Classification:
H04L 12/66
US Classification:
370352, 370401, 370466, 370467
Abstract:
A telecommunications system having a first PS network, second PS network and a third circuit-switched core network includes a system for terminating a legacy domain circuit-switched communication upon receipt of a trigger signal requesting termination of communication. The system includes first and second functional entities in each network. The first and second functional entities of the first network can communicate signals over an interface using a PS protocol. The first and second functional entities of the second network can communicate signals over an interface using a PS protocol. The first functional entity of the first network can communicate packet data to and from the first functional entity of the second network. The second functional entity of the first network communicates a PS protocol signal to the second entity of the second network, which then communicates a circuit-switched protocol signal to and from the third circuit-switched protocol core network to terminate the circuit-switched communication.
