US Patent:
6767038, Jul 27, 2004
Filed:
Feb 8, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/067824
Inventors:
Jan M. Huml - Medford WI
Assignee:
G-U Hardware, Inc. - Newport News VA
International Classification:
E05C 106
US Classification:
292158, 292 34, 292137, 292139, 292157, 292162, 2923363, 292DIG 20, 292DIG 38
Abstract:
A plastic casement windows operator has a plastic housing, a plastic sliding tounge and a plastic operating lever. The housing has a plastic main body and a plastic cover with complementary peripheral steps and peripheral energy directors and inward extending receivers and pins with energy directors for joining the cover and main body after the plastic sliding tounge and plastic operating lever are installed. The main body has an inward extending cylindrical bearing opening, which holds a cylindrical bearing integrally formed between an operating handle and an activator arm. An activator cylinder at a remote end of the arm moves in an oval groove in the sliding tounge. Wings on the tounge support opposite jugs and cylindrical guides which slide along inner guides on the cover and main body. An extension on the flat body tounge has a U-shaped opening for connecting a window linkage. Integral rims extend around the tounge, the U-shaped opening and the oval groove.

Adjustable Butt Hinges For Doors

View page
US Patent:
7603746, Oct 20, 2009
Filed:
Sep 20, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/247326
Inventors:
Julius von Resch - Stuttgart, DE
Jan M. Huml - Medford WI, US
Assignee:
G-U Hardware, Inc. - Newport News VA
International Classification:
E05D 7/04
US Classification:
16245, 16238, 16248, 16260, 16265
Abstract:
A three-way adjustable butt hinge for a door is adjusted vertically in a door frame by inserting an allen wrench in a vertical adjustment screw at the top of the hinge pin. Turning the wrench moves the screw in either direction, pushes on the hinge pin and raises or lowers the door as necessary. A pin has an eccentric shaft with upper and lower sections offset on parallel axes. Lateral adjustments are effected by loosening a side-mounted set screw and turning the eccentric shaft as necessary to move the door either in or out or side to side in the frame. The lateral set screw holds the hinge pin integral with the sash hinge. The door is removed from the frame by simply lifting the door sash hinge and pin from the complementary pin receiver on the frame hinge.

Thumb Operated Door Lock Assembly

View page
US Patent:
8161780, Apr 24, 2012
Filed:
Jan 19, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/657375
Inventors:
Jan M. Huml - Medford WI, US
Assignee:
G-U Hardware, Inc. - Newport News VA
International Classification:
E05B 59/00
US Classification:
70107, 70109, 70DIG 42, 292 34, 292 39, 292142
Abstract:
A thumb operated door latch and lock assembly has an exterior grip and thumb lever, a motion converter, a key cylinder, a strengthening plate and an interior latch lever and locking knob. The thumb lever moves the converter which turns a latch tongue that extends through a receiver in the latch assembly. The interior lever turns a limited engagement interior hub collar. A figure eight opening in the collar turns the latch tongue to withdraw the latches. Turning the interior lever upward disables the thumb lever. Turning the lever to withdraw the latches moves a slide upward within guide plates. The slide turns an interior lever and an extended tongue on the key cylinder to withdraw the dead bolt simultaneously with the latches.

Mortise Door Lock System

View page
US Patent:
20130234449, Sep 12, 2013
Filed:
Mar 6, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/786839
Inventors:
- Laval, CA
Marcel VAN DER HOEVEN - Burlington, CA
Jan HUML - Medford WI, US
International Classification:
E05C 7/04
E05C 1/08
US Classification:
292162, 292145
Abstract:
A lock system for a door comprises one or more elongated members adapted to translate axially in a door to be moved in and out of engagement into a lock catch of a door frame. A lock mechanism is received in a mortise of the door and having a handle actuatable to displace at least one driver in translation. A depth adjustment adaptor comprises a interface connected to the elongated member, with or without a joint with at least one degree of freedom connecting the interface to the driver to adjust a depth of the interface relative to the driver and to a lateral surface of the door to actuate the axial translation of the elongated member by movement of the driver.

Casement Window Roto-Operators

View page
US Patent:
62472704, Jun 19, 2001
Filed:
Jul 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/358458
Inventors:
Jan M. Huml - Medford WI
Assignee:
G-U Hardware, Inc. - Newport News VA
International Classification:
E05F 1124
US Classification:
49341
Abstract:
A window operator, particularly, operators for venting casement windows is provided. The base housing of the operator is of a plastic polymer, which is a non-corrosive and non-thermal conducting material. The top and bottom base components are then sonic welded with a heat-treated steel worm gear welded inside of the plastic base of the window operator creating a one-piece assembly. The worm gear and pinion gear with attached operator arm are placed within the base body before fusion welding the top body. The use of the plastic polymer for the base housing eliminates the possibility of corrosion of the base material. Also, the polymer does not require finishing or painting to protect it from corrosion.
