Filed:
Sep 20, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/251005
Inventors:
Kevin L. Judd - Pendleton IN, US
Paul H. Fort - Anderson IN, US
Douglas A. Elrod - Pendleton IN, US
Robert A. Kidd - Alexandria IN, US
Jack D. Bodem - Kokomo IN, US
Vince E. Stanley - Wilkinson IN, US
Assignee:
Guide Corporation - Pendelton IN
International Classification:
F21V029/00
US Classification:
362519, 362549, 362267, 362226, 362548
Abstract:
A sealing bulb boot for use in a vehicular lighting assembly comprising a boot with a lip running along its outer perimeter and a hole at its approximate center. The hole in the boot is generally circular in configuration with at least one notch which allows a conventional tabbed locking mechanism of a light source, which requires an approximate quarter turn to lock the light source to the reflector, to pass therethrough. The outer lip of the sealing bulb boot presses around a portion of the housing of the lighting assembly. A seal is also created around the inner portion of the sealing bulb boot upon the insertion of the light source through the hole at the center of the boot and the turning of the light source to engage the light source's locking mechanism.

Shear Welded Mounting Stud Assembly

View page
US Patent:
7357547, Apr 15, 2008
Filed:
Oct 13, 2004
Appl. No.:

Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
F21V 7/04
US Classification:
362549, 362459, 362546, 362365, 362368, 362370
Abstract:
The subject invention relates to an assembly and method for attaching a stud to a lamp housing that decreases the overall size of the automotive lamp assembly. The apparatus has a collar molded over a stud. The collar attaches the stud to the lamp housing by being shear welded to the lamp housing. The stud is prevented from rotating about its longitudinal axis, so that it can serve to mount the lamp housing to an automobile.

Abstract:
An integral lamp assembly and method of construction thereof is provided. The integral lamp assembly includes a bulb and a plurality of terminals fixed to the bulb. The assembly further includes a socket having at least one through passage wherein the terminals extend through the at least one through passage. The assembly also includes a housing overmolded in bonded relation to at least one of the socket and the terminals such that the housing prevents the bulb from being removed from the socket and prevents the socket from being removed from the housing.

Electrodeless Neon Light Module For Vehicle Lighting Systems

View page
US Patent:
61182265, Sep 12, 2000
Filed:
Jul 31, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/127240
Inventors:
Robert L. Kohne - Noblesville IN
Jack D. Bodem - Kokomo IN
Assignee:
Federal-Mogul World Wide, Inc. - Southfield MI
International Classification:
B60Q 104
US Classification:
315248
Abstract:
A light assembly (10) for a vehicle includes a housing (12) having a light-transmissive cover (18) and an RF emission gas discharge light source (22) provided as a self-contained module mountable in the housing (12). The module (22) includes an envelope (24) filled with an RF excitable gas (27) and an RF induction coil (28). The envelope (24) and coil (28) are fixed in working relation to one another in a common base (40). The base (40) also supports an electrical connector (32) that leads to the coil (28) and that mates with a corresponding connector (34) leading from the vehicle power supply (38). The module (22) and housing (12) have mutually connectable mounting portions (48, 50) for mounting the module (22) on the housing (12).

Vehicle Signal Lamp Assembly

View page
US Patent:
54869919, Jan 23, 1996
Filed:
Jul 29, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/283105
Inventors:
Jack D. Bodem - Kokomo IN
Assignee:
Federal-Mogul Corporation - Southfield MI
International Classification:
F21V 1504
US Classification:
312369
Abstract:
A vehicle signal lamp assembly includes lamp filaments extending in a direction generally parallel to the line of action of the principal vibratory force imposed on the lamp assembly. The assembly includes a lamp having a base that mounts two or more pairs of relatively stiff filament support wires. The lamp assembly further includes a socket having a cavity mated to the cross sectional configuration of the lamp base, and resilient electrical contact leaf members in the cavity engageable with the filament support wires when the lamp base is plugged into the socket cavity. The socket is carried in a resilient mounting that provides partial shock isolation for the socket and lamp.

Gas Discharge Lamp Assembly With Improved R.f. Shielding

View page
US Patent:
62975838, Oct 2, 2001
Filed:
Oct 8, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/168476
Inventors:
Robert L. Kohne - Noblesville IN
Jack D. Bodem - Kokomo IN
Assignee:
Federal-Mogul World Wide, Inc. - Southfield MI
International Classification:
H01J 150
H01J 2310
H01J 2976
US Classification:
313161
Abstract:
An inductively driven gas discharge lamp assembly (40) includes an electrodeless lamp (42), an inductive drive coil (44) disposed about the lamp, and a shield (10) disposed over an end portion (50) of the lamp. The shield (10) has a number of turns (12) of electrically conductive material, such as wire, with each of the turns being disposed generally coaxially about the central, longitudinal axis (20) of the drive coil (44). The turns (12) together form a continuous spiral helix and are shorted together via a number of electrical conductors (14) that are angularly disposed about the axis (20). These electrical conductors (14) extend generally perpendicularly to the turns (12) and are connected to the ground node (26) of a d. c. to a. c. inverter circuit 46 that is used to drive coil 44. This arrangement provides good r. f.

Automotive Marker Lamp

View page
US Patent:
53880358, Feb 7, 1995
Filed:
Jul 23, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/096342
Inventors:
Jack D. Bodem - Kokomo IN
Assignee:
Federal-Mogul Corporation - Southfield MI
International Classification:
B60Q 126
US Classification:
362 61
Abstract:
A vehicular marker lamp includes three light-emitting diodes located within a cup-shaped housing having a flat, transparent front wall or lens. Parallel V-shaped ribs in the rear surface of the lens form prisms that serve to horizontally spread the light beams emitted by the diodes. The ribs are angled differently so that the beam from each diode is spread to a different extent. A composite output beam is generated having a desired beam width and intensity. In a preferred arrangement, the width of the output beam is about 30. degree. in the vertical plane and 90. degree. in the horizontal plane.
