US Patent:
8157303, Apr 17, 2012
Filed:
Feb 19, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/709028
Inventors:
Hugo Fortin - Commerce Township MI, US
Assignee:
Nissan North America, Inc. - Franklin TN
International Classification:
B60R 19/24
B60R 19/52
US Classification:
293115, 2961931
Abstract:
A vehicle end structure mainly includes a vehicle bumper fascia and a grille assembly. The vehicle bumper fascia includes a sill portion and a receiving member extending from the sill portion. The receiving member defines a channel with an opening extending in a forward vehicle facing direction. The grille assembly includes inner grille and outer grille members that are coupled together. The inner grille member has a support member formed at a periphery of the inner grille member. The support member is disposed in the channel of the receiving member to limit movement of the inner grille member in a direction normal to the forward vehicle facing direction. The outer grille member is disposed on a forward vehicle facing side of the inner grille member to conceal the support member from view in the first direction.

Vehicle Body Structure

US Patent:
8419099, Apr 16, 2013
Filed:
Jul 21, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/188140
Inventors:
Toshihiro Inoue - Commerce Township MI, US
Hugo Fortin - Commerce Township MI, US
Assignee:
Nissan North America, Inc. - Franklin TN
International Classification:
B60R 13/02
US Classification:
296 108, 527165, 527167, 24297
Abstract:
A vehicle body structure includes a vehicle body panel, a trim panel and a first mounting arrangement. The vehicle body panel includes interior and exterior attached panels. The exterior panel includes a base surface extending along a peripheral edge of the vehicle body panel and a mounting surface that is raised relative to an adjacent portion of the base surface. The mounting surface defines an aperture that extends to an opposite concave surface of the exterior panel. The base surface of the exterior panel abuts the interior panel along a majority of a perimeter of the mounting surface. The trim panel is coupled to the vehicle body panel. The first mounting arrangement couples the trim panel to the vehicle body panel and engages a periphery of the aperture through the mounting surface to at least partially retain the trim panel to the vehicle body panel in an installed position.

Exterior Vehicle Body Assembly

US Patent:
8480148, Jul 9, 2013
Filed:
Mar 2, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/410912
Inventors:
Hugo Fortin - Commerce Township MI, US
Brittany Forgue - Novi MI, US
Assignee:
Nissan North America, Inc. - Franklin TN
International Classification:
B60J 9/00
US Classification:
296 108
Abstract:
An exterior vehicle body assembly comprises a vehicle body panel and an exterior vehicle trim. The vehicle body panel includes a first mounting portion having a first pivot structure and a first attachment structure spaced from the first pivot structure. The exterior vehicle trim includes a second mounting portion having a second pivot structure and a second attachment structure. The second pivot structure mates with the first pivot structure such that the exterior vehicle trim is pivotally supported about a pivot axis defined by the mating of the first and second pivot structures between an initial installation position and a final installed position. The pivot axis extends in a vehicle heightwise direction of the exterior vehicle body assembly, and the first and second attachment structures are aligned with each other with the exterior vehicle trim being in the final installed position with respect to the vehicle body panel.

Vehicle Front Energy Absorber

US Patent:
8517454, Aug 27, 2013
Filed:
Jun 22, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/530587
Inventors:
Matthew Huber - Novi MI, US
Hugo Fortin - Commerce Township MI, US
Patrick Grattan - Novi MI, US
Assignee:
Nissan North America, Inc. - Franklin TN
International Classification:
B60R 19/22
US Classification:
29618709, 293120, 293121
Abstract:
A vehicle front energy absorber includes a back wall section, an upper absorption section and a lower absorption section. The upper absorption section has a first upper surface extending frontward from an upper lengthwise edge of the back wall section with a first upper obtuse angle being defined between the back wall section and the first upper surface. The lower absorption section includes a first lower surface that extends frontward from a lower lengthwise edge of the back wall section with a first lower obtuse angle being defined between the back wall section and the first lower surface. The upper absorption section, the back wall section and the lower absorption section having a transverse U-shape in cross-section that defines a lengthwise concave channel having a longitudinal opening, the first upper surface and the first lower surface diverging away from one another in frontward directions from the back wall section.

Bumper Fascia Support Assembly

View page
US Patent:
8523251, Sep 3, 2013
Filed:
Jun 8, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/492494
Inventors:
Hugo F. Fortin - Commerce Township MI, US
Matthew Huber - Livonia MI, US
Assignee:
Nissan North America, Inc. - Franklin TN
International Classification:
B60R 19/26
US Classification:
293132
Abstract:
A bumper fascia support assembly includes a front support, a bracket and a bumper fascia. The bracket has a support attachment end, a body section and a fascia attachment end. The support attachment end is fixedly attached to a forward facing surface of the front support. The bumper fascia has a central section fixedly attached to the fascia attachment end of the bracket. The body section of the bracket has a controlled deflection structure that is configured with respect to the support attachment end and the fascia attachment end to deform downwardly in response to a prescribed impacting force being applied to the bumper fascia so that the fascia attachment end and the central section of the bumper fascia move downward relative to the support attachment end absorbing impact energy.

US Patent:
20080203744, Aug 28, 2008
Filed:
Feb 27, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/679576
Inventors:
Hugo F. Fortin - Commerce Twp MI, US
Assignee:
Nissan Technical Center North America, Inc. - Farmington Hills MI
International Classification:
B60R 19/18
US Classification:
293124
Abstract:
A vehicle bumper assembly includes a bumper reinforcement member, a corner bracket and a biasing member. The bumper reinforcement member has a first lateral end section, a second lateral end section, an outboard facing side extending between the first and second lateral end sections and an inboard facing side with a vehicle mounting structure. The corner bracket is pivotally supported to the first lateral end section of the bumper reinforcement member proximate the inboard facing side. The biasing member extends between the outboard facing side of the bumper reinforcement member and an outboard side of the corner bracket.
