Apparatus And Method For Phase Tracking In A Demodulator

View page
US Patent:
6445752, Sep 3, 2002
Filed:
Feb 12, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/248904
Inventors:
Hong Jiang - Montclair NJ
Paul L. Palmieri - New Providence NJ
Agesino Primatic, Jr. - Frenchtown NJ
Lesley J. Wu - Parsippany NJ
Liangkai Yu - New Providence NJ
Assignee:
Agere Systems Guardian Corp. - Miami Lakes FL
International Classification:
H04L 2714
US Classification:
375326, 375235
Abstract:
A phase tracker receives a signal component x and forms a phase- and gain-corrected signal z. In particular, the phase tracker performs a Hilbert transform of x to produce a quadrature phase component y to form the constellation defined by (x , y ). Consequently, phase rotation and gain adjustment are combined into a linear transform of the constellation defined by (x , y ). The linear transform z =x +y employs two coefficients and. The coefficients and of the linear transform are derived so as to provide an optimal solution according to minimum mean square error. Approximations to the coefficients and of the linear transform may be iteratively determined with a stochastic gradient method. Advantages of employing the phase- and gain-corrected signal z as an I-phase detection result of a demodulator include 1) the phase rotation and gain adjustment are combined into one operation, and 2) the a sine/cosine lookup table is not employed. Including both phase rotation and a gain adjustment may provide for better performance of the demodulator.

Bharat Tarachand Doshi - Holmdel NJ
Subrahmanyam Dravida - Groton MA
Hong Jiang - Westfield NJ
Kiran M. Rege - Marlboro NJ
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Murray Hill NJ

US Classification:
370328, 370393, 370400, 370469, 455433, 455456
Abstract:
Various methodologies and related apparatus associated with mobility management issues within a packet-based multiaccess mobile communications system, which includes a plurality of mobile user stations and a plurality of network nodes, are provided. Location management techniques include tracking and/or locating mobile stations within the system. The invention makes use of home and visiting location registers in which information such as mobile station addresses and/or host names associated with mobile stations are stored. Mobile access methodologies include a complete mobile access method and a direct mobile access method. The former allows a mobile station to preferably include a unique address in the packets being transmitted, while the latter allows the station to merely use the host name of the destination station. The invention also includes various in-call mobility management techniques, including handoffs, which make use of the concept of an anchor.

Spatial Median Filter

View page
US Patent:
6760737, Jul 6, 2004
Filed:
Jan 16, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/760923
Inventors:
Hong Jiang - Warren NJ
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
G06F 708
US Classification:
708202
Abstract:
A spatial median filter determines a median of a plurality of values by dividing the plurality of values into a plurality of groups of values. The values in each of the groups are sorted to determine its median. Then, the medians of the plurality of groups are fully sorted. Certain of the sorted values are eliminated from prescribed ones of the groups in accordance with prescribed criteria based on the number of values in the group and the median value of the group values. The remaining values are sorted to determine the median of the plurality of values.

Location Based Routing For Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

View page
US Patent:
6816460, Nov 9, 2004
Filed:
Mar 14, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/525735
Inventors:
Walid Ahmed - Eatontown NJ
Hong Jiang - Westfield NJ
Muralidharan Sampath Kodialam - Marlboro NJ
Pantelis Monogioudis - Edison NJ
Kiran M Rege - Marlboro NJ
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04L 1226
US Classification:
370238, 370255
Abstract:
In an ad-hoc mobile network, a geometry-based routing algorithm (GRA) is used to route traffic from a source node to a destination node. In the GRA, a source node maintains location information and routing information for all nodes in a local area and approximate location information for at least some nodes outside the local area. If the source node has to send a packet to a destination node outside their local area, then the source node uses the approximate location information of the destination node to identify which node in its local area is closer to the destination node than the source node. The source node then sends the packet to the identified local node for further routing.

Inventors:
Hong Jiang - Warren NJ
Agesino Primatic, Jr. - Frenchtown NJ
Assignee:

US Classification:
345604, 345600, 345644, 348441, 348444, 382162, 382167
Abstract:
Color space conversion from a first image definition scheme to a second image definition scheme is realized by utilizing only one step of matrix multiplication and by determining whether determined RGB values are in a valid RGB region and, if not, generating a first modification factor to bring the RGB vector onto or in close proximity to the boundary of the valid RGB region. Then, the first modification factor is employed to modify in a prescribed manner the converted chroma values. In a specific embodiment of the invention, only a single matrix multiplication is employed and the otherwise additional required multiplication and/or division steps are realized by additions and/or subtractions and by employing a prescribed iterative process to bring the RGB values into or close to the valid RGB color space region. The converted chroma values are also modified by associated second modification factors also generated in the iteration process. In another specific embodiment of the invention, the converted chroma values are modified or not during an iteration depending upon whether a factor corresponding to and related to R , G , B is within a specific color space region or not.
