US Patent:
20030027777, Feb 6, 2003
Filed:
Jan 4, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/038060
Inventors:
Andrew Koff - New York NY, US
Hiroaki Kiyokawa - Chicago IL, US
International Classification:
A61K048/00
C12N015/85
US Classification:
514/044000, 424/093210, 435/455000
Abstract:
This invention provides a recombinant non-human animal lacking the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor function of p27and the method for producing the same. This invention also provides a method for increasing the proliferation of the thymic T-cells by treating the thymic T-cells to eliminate the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibition function of p27. This invention also provides a method for increasing the proliferation of hematopoietic cells which comprises treating the hematopoietic cells to eliminate the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor function of p27, thereby increasing the proliferation of the hematopoietic cells. This invention further provides a method for alleviating symptoms of an AIDS patient comprising steps of: a) collecting the lymphocytes or other cells from an AIDS patient; b) treating the collected cells to eliminate the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibition function of p27; and c) re-introducing the treated cells to the AIDS patient.
