Nov 17, 2006
Appl. No.:
12/093924
Inventors:
Larry Moeller - Schaumburg IL, US
Hanxin Zhao - Northbrook IL, US
Assignee:
Illinois Tool Works Inc. - Glenview IL
International Classification:
B25C 1/08
US Classification:
227 2, 227 10
Abstract:
A combustion-powered fastener-driving tool includes a tool housing, a power source associated with the housing and including a cylinder head, a cylinder and a piston reciprocating in the cylinder, a valve sleeve reciprocating relative to the cylinder, a chamber switch and a trigger switch; the cylinder head, the valve sleeve, the cylinder and the piston combining to define a combustion chamber, the closing of both switches required for initiating an ignition of the power source for driving piston down cylinder. A fan is disposed in the combustion chamber, and a control system includes a control program associated with the housing, connected to the power source, the chamber switch and the trigger switch, and configured for providing a designated ignition delay period after fuel is injected into the combustion chamber and when the chamber switch is closed, the delay period being variable as a function of monitored tool parameters.

Combustion Chamber Distance Control For Combustion-Powered Fastener-Driving Tool

US Patent:
8191751, Jun 5, 2012
Filed:
Mar 8, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/719442
Inventors:
Larry M. Moeller - Schaumburg IL, US
Hanxin Zhao - Northbrook IL, US
Assignee:
Illinois Tool Works Inc. - Glenview IL
International Classification:
B25C 1/14
US Classification:
227 10, 227 8, 227130, 123 46 SC
Abstract:
A combustion-powered fastener-driving tool includes a combustion-powered power source including a cylinder head and a combustion chamber defined by the cylinder head, a valve sleeve and an upper surface of a reciprocating piston, the valve sleeve reciprocable relative to the cylinder head between a rest position and a pre-firing position. The valve sleeve has a range of positions between a first sealing position in which the combustion chamber is closed, and said pre-firing position in which the valve sleeve is prevented from further movement. A lockout device is associated with the power source and has an actuated position configured for preventing the reciprocation of the valve sleeve beyond the first sealed position to open the combustion chamber, but permitting movement of the valve sleeve from the first sealed position to the pre-firing position until the piston returns to a piston pre-firing position post combustion.

Filed:
Nov 15, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/946292
Inventors:
Marc Largo - Gurnee IL, US
Hanxin Zhao - Northbrook IL, US
Christopher H. Porth - Gurnee IL, US
Daniel Birk - McHenry IL, US
Assignee:
Illinois Tool Works Inc. - Glenview IL
International Classification:
B25C 1/08
US Classification:
227 2, 227109, 227130, 227136
Abstract:
A nailer includes a power source including a piston reciprocating within a cylinder, a driver blade secured to the piston for common movement relative to a nosepiece, a magazine connected to the nosepiece for feeding fasteners sequentially for being driven into a workpiece by the driver blade, a delay mechanism operatively associated with the magazine and configured for engaging a second fastener and delaying advancement of the subsequent fastener to the nosepiece until the driver blade returns to the pre-firing position after driving a leading fastener.
