Abstract:
A service level agreement between a network service provider and a network user may require that specified service metrics or parameters be maintained within predetermined limits. To reduce the chance those limits (and the service level agreement) will be violated, the service metric is sampled periodically over successive sampling intervals. The mean value and the standard deviation of the set of samples obtained during the most recent sampling interval are used to screen out unreliable data. If the set of samples satisfies the reliability screening, the set is used in combination with past acceptable sets to determine the trend in the sampled service metric. If the trend is toward a violation, the time of the violation is predicted based on the assumption the current trend will continue. If the predicted time of violation is sufficiently near the current time, an alert is sent to the service provider to permit the service provider to initiate anticipatory corrective action.

Abstract:
A service level management (SLM) configuration system and method. The SLM configuration system can include a data store having one or more references to metric components. A discovery processor can be coupled to the data store and programmed to identify individual ones of the metric components through the references which can be incorporated in a service level agreement (SLA) and managed by an associated SLM system. Finally, a registration processor can be coupled both to the discovery processor and to the associated SLM system. The registration processor can have a configuration for adding identified ones of the metric components to the associated SLM system for management by the associated SLM system when the identified ones of the metric components are incorporated into an SLA managed by the associated SLM system.

A composite, multi-tier SLA. A composite, multi-tier SLA can include two or more service offerings having both internal use only service level objectives and external service level objectives. The composite, multi-tier SLA further can include two or more SLAs combined into a single, composite SLA. Each of the SLAs can correspond to a specific one of the service offerings. Moreover, the SLAs in the composite SLA can have a hierarchical organization based upon dependencies between the service offerings. Notably, each of the SLAs can correspond to one of an outsourced service offering, an internal service offering and an external service offering. Additionally, at least one of the SLAs can expose an external service level objective of a corresponding internal service offering which has been redefined as an internal use only service level objective in an SLA at a higher tier in the hierarchical organization.

The present invention provides a method, system, and computer program product for providing access to J2EE application servers from non-J2EE application clients. The method comprises: sending data from an application client to a staging area; sending a message from the application client to a J2EE application server, the message notifying the J2EE application server that data is available in the staging area and providing a name of an adapter that can retrieve the data from the staging area; obtaining the adapter using a Message Driven Bean, wherein the Message Driven bean retrieves the data from the staging area using the adapter; and inserting the retrieved data into a database of the J2EE application server using the Message Driven Bean.
