Modular Conveyor Belts With Pin-Retained Attachments

View page
US Patent:
6467610, Oct 22, 2002
Filed:
Oct 2, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/969226
Inventors:
Gilbert J. MacLachlan - Chalmette LA
Assignee:
The Laitram Corporation - Harahan LA
International Classification:
B65G 1302
US Classification:
1986991, 198853
Abstract:
A modular conveyor belt with pin-retained attachments. The conveyor belt is constructed of a series of rows of side-by-side belt modules hingedly interconnected end to end by hinge pins through interleaved hinge eyes of adjacent rows. Selected modules are base modules that include upstanding members extending from intermediate module structure. Belt attachments, such as flights, include depending connection members with shank portions that interleave with the upstanding members of the base module. One or more aligned apertures through the interleaved connection members and upstanding members form passageways across the base modules for connecting pins that hold the attachment to one or more base modules.

Self-Clearing Vibrating Article-Transfer Mechanism

View page
US Patent:
6550604, Apr 22, 2003
Filed:
Jan 30, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/060182
Inventors:
Gilbert J. MacLachlan - Chalmette LA
Assignee:
The Laitram Corporation - Harahan LA
International Classification:
B65G 2500
US Classification:
198614, 198635, 1987501
Abstract:
A self-clearing article-transfer plate for a conveyor system. The plate is disposed between an upstream article feeder, such as a conveyor belt supplying a stream of conveyed articles, and a downstream article receiver, such as a takeaway belt or an accumulation table. The plate may have a tapered edge or a fingered edge at a first end for receiving articles from the article feeder. Backpressure from the stream of articles pushes the articles onto, across, and off a second opposite end of the plate onto the article receiver. When the stream of articles stops or is interrupted, the last articles in the stream are urged along the plate from the first end to the second end by vibrations from a vibrator affixed to a support for the plate. In this way, articles are cleared from the plate, without being stranded, even in the absence of backpressure.

Belts And Belt Modules For Spiral Conveyors

View page
US Patent:
6578704, Jun 17, 2003
Filed:
Nov 18, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/065777
Inventors:
Gilbert J. MacLachlan - Chalmette LA
Assignee:
The Laitran Corporation - Harahan LA
International Classification:
B65G 1302
US Classification:
198778, 198853
Abstract:
A spiral conveyor with a belt having rollers at the inside edge. The spiral conveyor includes a rotating tower with a conveyor belt following a helical path around the tower. Rollers extending outward from the inner side edge of the belt have an axis of rotation generally parallel to the helical path. The rollers engage the outer surface of the tower in high-friction rubbing contact in the circumferential direction, but in low friction rolling contact in the vertical direction to provide a low-tension spiral conveyor system. The belt is preferably a modular conveyor belt constructed of a series of rows of belt modules connected together at hinge joints.

Modular Conveyor Belts And Attachments

View page
US Patent:
7494006, Feb 24, 2009
Filed:
Jun 7, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/160049
Inventors:
Errol P. Knott - Gonzales LA, US
R. Scott Dailey - Destrehan LA, US
Richard M. Klein - Slidell LA, US
Gilbert J. MacLachlan - Chalmette LA, US
Assignee:
Laitram, L.L.C. - Harahan LA
International Classification:
B65G 17/06
B65G 17/38
US Classification:
198850, 198853
Abstract:
A modular conveyor belt and belt attachment members that are retained by hinge rods. The attachment members have a body with opposite outer and base surfaces. Interaction elements, such as high-friction surfaces, plates, or holddown wings, extend from the outer surface. The base surface mounts flush against a conveying surface or an opposite surface of the belt. Legs extend directly from the base surface into gaps between hinge elements extending longitudinally outward of conveyor belt modules forming the belt. Feet at distal ends of the legs hook under hinge rods to retain the attachment member firmly in place. The lateral spacings between the legs are related to the geometry of the hinge elements to register the attachment element with respect to the belt.

Appl. No.:
11/307819
Inventors:
Kyle J. Sedlacek - New Orleans LA, US
Gilbert J. MacLachlan - River Ridge LA, US
Assignee:
Laitram, L.L.C. - Harahan LA
International Classification:
B65G 17/40
B65G 17/06
B65G 17/30
B65G 17/08
US Classification:
198850, 198820, 198832, 198851, 1988441, 198845, 198846, 198849, 198853
Abstract:
A modular belt constructed of belt modules having a large open area, making the belt suitable for use as a traveling water screen. The modules include an intermediate portion composed of intersecting sets of link elements and transverse elements that form a gridlike pattern. Openings bounded by the walls of consecutive link elements and transverse elements form channels through the belt for the flow of water. The modules are connected together by hinge rods to form a belt that can be used as a water screen. Detachable flights or scoops for lifting debris or fish out of a stream are attachable to base modules.

Water Screen System With Boot Seal

View page
US Patent:
7776212, Aug 17, 2010
Filed:
Mar 14, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/308257
Inventors:
Philip J. Wunsch - New Orleans LA, US
Gilbert J. MacLachlan - River Ridge LA, US
Assignee:
Laitram, L.L.C. - Harahan LA
International Classification:
E03F 5/14
US Classification:
210158, 210160, 210400
Abstract:
A boot seal for a vertically traveling water screen and a method forming a boot seal. The boot seal comprises a bent plate that extends from an attachment end to a free end. The attachment end is attached to a frame mounted at the bottom of a channel of water flowing through the water screen. The boot seal is positioned just upstream of the upward-moving upstream face of the water screen. The free end of the bent plate in a rest position is positioned close to or lightly touching the upstream face of the water screen. The bent plate has a concave surface facing the water screen. The bent plate acts as a cam follower to a passing lift element's cam. As the lift element slides along the concave cam surface, the lift element pivots the boot plate in an upstream direction against a spring bias. When the lift element clears the boot plate, the boot plate springs back to its rest position.
