Trip Indicating Circuit Breaker Operating Handle

View page
US Patent:
45981833, Jul 1, 1986
Filed:
Jul 27, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/634947
Inventors:
Jeffrey B. Gardner - Columbia SC
Gerald J. Kuiper - Columbia SC
Richard A. Nelson - Winston-Salem NC
Assignee:
Square D Company - Palatine IL
International Classification:
H01H 920
US Classification:
200 50A
Abstract:
A circuit breaker operating apparatus is of the type having an enclosure, the circuit breaker mounted inside the enclosure, the circuit breaker has an operating toggle, the operating toggle has at least a trip position into which trip position the toggle is urged when the circuit breaker goes into a trip condition, the apparatus has a handle mounted on the exterior of the enclosure, the handle has a lever mounted for rotational motion relative to the enclosure. A guide is fixedly attached to the handle; a cam link, the cam link having a first end rotatably attached to the lever, and the cam link having a second end slidably attached to the guide so that as the lever undergoes rotation the second end of the cam link moves along the guide. A pin allows the second end of the cam link to slide along the guide in response to the toggle as the toggle is urged into the trip position by the circuit breaker going into a trip condition so that the position of the lever indicates that the circuit breaker is in a trip condition.

Moldings For Isolation Switch And Fuse Clips

View page
US Patent:
47975164, Jan 10, 1989
Filed:
Mar 3, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/018767
Inventors:
Michael R. Clark - Columbia SC
Gerald J. Kuiper - Columbia SC
Donald B. Monson - Eastover SC
Dominick Tringali - Columbia SC
Assignee:
Square D Company - Palatine IL
International Classification:
H01R 1370
US Classification:
200 51R
Abstract:
An electric switch has a first molding for supporting an isolation switch and at least one line side power fuse clip, where the line fuse clip is capable of retaining a first end of a power fuse fed by the isolation switch. A second molding for supporting at least one load side power fuse clip is provided, where the load fuse clip is capable of retaining a second end of the power fuse. At least one projection is formed into the second molding for supporting a control circuit fuse, where the projection is substantially parallel to and beside an installed power fuse, and a control circuit line side fuse clip and a corresponding load side clip is mounted to each of the projections formed into the second molding, so that installed control and power fuses are spaced apart and substantially parallel. A conductor behind a terminal of the power fuse connects the load side power fuse clip to the control circuit line side fuse clip. A socket may be formed in a top surface of the first molding, and the line side power fuse clip may be attached to a lower surface of the first molding, so that a bus bar may be supported above the first molding.

Controller Having Interchangeable Vacuum Or Air Break Contactors And Having Easily Serviced Parts

View page
US Patent:
48394777, Jun 13, 1989
Filed:
Mar 7, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/168568
Inventors:
Miklos J. Orosz - Columbia SC
Dominick Tringali - Columbia SC
Donald B. Monson - Eastover SC
Gerald J. Kuiper - Columbia SC
Assignee:
Square D Company - Palatine IL
International Classification:
H01H 920
H02B 104
US Classification:
200 50AA
Abstract:
The inventions solves the problem of convenient mounting of parts of controllers, and solves the problem of interchangeability of vacuum and air break contactors within a controller. A controller has a housing, an isolation switch mounted within the housing, a contactor mounted within the housing and connected electrically downstream from the isolation switch, and the controller has a receptacle which can accept either a vacuum contactor or an air break contactor. Also, the contactor has an operating coil and control components mounted on a side facing a door of the housing so that the coil can be replaced and the control components serviced without disturbing the contactor.
