Methods For Producing Useful Water Products With Reduced Sodium Content

View page
US Patent:
7514003, Apr 7, 2009
Filed:
Mar 16, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/081576
Inventors:
Gerald J. Grott - Twentynine Palms CA, US
International Classification:
G21F 9/04
US Classification:
210681
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for treating unwanted moderately saline waters for producing waters acceptable for treating soil, such as for irrigation. The treated water is also suitable for human and livestock consumption. The process includes passing moderately saline waters having 0. 05% or more by weight and less than 1. 00% by weight of the salts of Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cl, SO, or COor combinations thereof through an ion exchange resin. The ion exchange resin is pre-treated to be saturated with multivalent cations. Preferred multivalent cations include calcium (Ca+) or magnesium (Mg+) ions, or combinations thereof. After passing through the ion exchange resin, the effluent has decreased sodium cations and increased calcium and/or magnesium cations compared to the pre-treated moderately saline water. As the moderately saline waters passes through the ion exchange resin, the sodium content of the resin rises as the multivalent cation content lowers until the resin is unacceptable for further water treatment in accordance with the present invention. To regenerate the ion exchange resin, the resin is flushed with a brine solution having more than 1.

Methods Of Sealing Ponds And Increasing Water Catchment With Purified Waste Water

View page
US Patent:
7622044, Nov 24, 2009
Filed:
Apr 7, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/082044
Inventors:
Gerald J. Grott - Phoenix AZ, US
Assignee:
Ecycling, LLC - Phoenix AZ
International Classification:
B01D 15/04
US Classification:
210638
Abstract:
Water contaminated with sodium, calcium or magnesium salts or chloride, sulfate or carbonate salts is processed to produce a clean water stream and a waste water stream. The clean water stream is analyzed to determine if the sodium content is too high for potable use and, if so, the clean water stream is applied to soil to improve rain catchment for pond sealing.

Methods Of Improving Oil Or Gas Production With Recycled, Increased Sodium Water

View page
US Patent:
7717173, May 18, 2010
Filed:
Dec 21, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/643477
Inventors:
Gerald J. Grott - Phoenix AZ, US
Assignee:
Ecycling, LLC - Phoenix
International Classification:
E21B 43/00
US Classification:
166267
Abstract:
A method of improving oil or gas well production has the steps of (a) collecting contaminated water having 0. 15% or more by weight of the salts of Na, Ca, Mg, K, Cl, SOor COor combinations thereof (b) separation processing the contaminated water to produce i. ) a first separated liquid product having increased sodium chloride and decreased magnesium chloride and calcium chloride or combinations thereof than the collected water, and ii) a second solid or liquid product having decreased sodium chloride and increased magnesium chloride and calcium chloride or combinations thereof than the collected water, and (c) injecting the first liquid product into an oil or gas well formation to improve production.

The process includes passing moderately saline waters having 0. 05% or more weight and less than 1. 00% by weight of the salts of Na, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cl, SO, or COor combinations thereof through an ion exchange media (FIG. ). The ion exchange media is pre-treated to be saturated with multivalent cations such as calcium (Ca+) or magnesium (Mg+) ions (FIG. ). After passing through the ion exchange media, the effluent has decreased sodium cations and increased calcium and/or magnesium cations compared to the pre-treated moderately saline water (FIG. ). As the moderately saline waters pass through the ion exchange media, the sodium content of the media rises as the multivalent cation content lowers until the media is unacceptable for further water treatment and must be regenerated.
