Reverse Drive Engaging Mechanism For A Feeder Of An Agricultural Combine

View page
US Patent:
7520113, Apr 21, 2009
Filed:
May 12, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/433729
Inventors:
Orlin W. Johnson - Geneseo IL, US
Guy N. Thedford - Naperville IL, US
George R. Vater - Clarendon Hills IL, US
Assignee:
CNH America LLC - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01D 69/06
US Classification:
56 112, 460 20
Abstract:
A reverse drive engaging mechanism for a feeder of an agricultural combine, including a power unit including a drive motor having an output gear drivingly rotatable by the motor about an output axis therethrough, and support structure supporting the power unit and configured to be fixedly mounted proximate to a drive gear of a mechanism to be reversed. The support structure supports the power unit such that when the support structure is mounted the output axis will be substantially parallel to a drive axis about which the drive gear is rotatable, and the support structure allows the power unit to be moved substantially linearly in a transverse direction relative to the axes between a disengaged position wherein the output gear is disengaged from the drive gear, and an engaged position wherein the output gear is engaged with the drive gear. The mechanism includes an actuator controllably operable for linearly moving the power unit at least from the disengaged position to the engaged position, the actuator being operable for initially causing initial rotation of the output gear during the engagement with the drive gear, and a mechanism for withdrawing or disengaging the output from the drive gear after use.

Locking Mechanism For Releasably Retaining A Power Take-Off Shaft Within An Output Shaft Hub

View page
US Patent:
56580878, Aug 19, 1997
Filed:
Dec 20, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/575289
Inventors:
George M. Butkovich - Lemont IL
Marvin A. Prickel - Woodridge IL
George R. Vater - Clarendon Hills IL
Kenneth Clayburn - Doncaster, GB2
Assignee:
Case Corporation - Racine WI
International Classification:
B25G 328
US Classification:
403359
Abstract:
A locking mechanism for releasably fixing an externally splined power take-off shaft to an output shaft of off-highway equipment such as a tractor. The output shaft has a hollow, internally splined hub portion adapted to axially receive the externally splined power take-off shaft to prevent relative rotational movement between the power take-off and output shafts. The locking mechanism includes a locking member supported within a radial opening in the power-take off shaft so as to be radially movable between an outer locking position and an inner unlocking position. In the outer locking position, the locking member is engageable with a recess formed in the hub portion of the output shaft to prevent relative axial movement between the power take-off shaft and the output shaft. In the inner unlocking position, the locking member is disengaged from the recess in the output shaft to permit such relative axial movement. An elongated actuator is positioned within an inner bore of the power take-off shaft and has a cam surface thereon.

Clutch Assembly And Lubrication Arrangement

View page
US Patent:
46484957, Mar 10, 1987
Filed:
Aug 28, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/770315
Inventors:
George R. Vater - Clarendon Hills IL
Joachim Horsch - Lombard IL
Assignee:
J. I. Case Company - Racine WI
International Classification:
F16D 25064
F16D 1374
US Classification:
192 7012
Abstract:
A hydraulically-operated clutch assembly is disclosed having an improved lubrication arrangement therefor. The assembly includes a shaft-mounted drum-like clutch carrier, and an adjacent transmission gear. The assembly further includes a plurality of clutch friction plates mounted on and operatively connected to the gear, and a plurality of clutch separator plates arranged in an alternating array with the friction plates, with the separator plates coupled for rotation with the clutch carrier. The lubrication arrangement includes means for supplying pressurized lubricant to the interface between the clutch friction plates and the associated gear, and means for inhibiting lubricant flow out of the assembly whereby the service life thereof is significantly enhanced.

Drive Shaft Shield Assembly

View page
US Patent:
47027240, Oct 27, 1987
Filed:
Jun 30, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/880200
Inventors:
George R. Vater - Clarendon Hills IL
Assignee:
J. I. Case Company - Racine WI
International Classification:
F16C 126
US Classification:
464172
Abstract:
An easily removable tubular shield assembly for shielding a drive shaft extending to the front wheels of a work vehicle, such as a tractor. The shield assembly has a plurality of telescoping tubular members forming a continuous tube, and one or more removable devices to lock the tubular members into fixed relative axial positions. The tubular shield can be shortened to expose the ends of the drive shaft and facilitate complete or partial removal of the drive shaft.

Motor Vehicle Transmission

View page
US Patent:
44983565, Feb 12, 1985
Filed:
May 18, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/379549
Inventors:
George R. Vater - Clarendon Hills IL
Harold W. Melles - Downers Grove IL
Assignee:
International Harvester Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
F16H 302
F16H 308
F16H 338
US Classification:
74745
Abstract:
A motor vehicle transmission comprising a speed and range sections connected via a master clutch, provides all speed selections on-the-go, i. e. without stopping the motor vehicle. An engine driven input shaft extending through the speed transmission section carries a pair of drive clutch packs for power shifting of the speeds. The power shifting between the clutch packs on this shift requires no master clutch engagement or disengagement. The plurality of speed which are not power shifted engage via gear synchronizers which require the disengagement of the master clutch while vehicle is still on-the-go. The disengagement of the master clutch simultaneously disengages the clutches in the drive clutch pack and is sequenced in such a manner that re-engagement of the master clutch follows the re-engagement of the drive clutch packs.
