Using Digital Signatures To Streamline The Process Of Amending Financial Transactions

View page
US Patent:
20020156726, Oct 24, 2002
Filed:
May 24, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/866018
Inventors:
James Kleckner - Palo Alto CA, US
Renee Vellaescusa - Union City CA, US
Eric Strellis - Albany CA, US
Minh Triet Tran - San Francisco CA, US
International Classification:
G06F017/60
H04K001/00
H04L009/00
US Classification:
705/039000, 705/075000
Abstract:
One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that uses digital signatures to validate an amendment to a financial transaction, wherein the financial transaction was previously agreed upon between a first party and a second party. The system operates by receiving a request to make the amendment from a first representative of the first party, wherein the request includes a suggested change to at least one term of the financial transaction. Next, the system validates that the first representative of the first party digitally signed the request by using a public key of the first representative to verify that the request was signed by a corresponding private key belonging to the first representative. If this validation establishes that the first representative signed the request, and if the second party desires to agree to the request, the system allows a second representative of the second party to confirm the request by digitally signing the request with a private key belonging to the second representative. The system subsequently returns the confirmed request to the first party.

Data Replication System And Method

View page
US Patent:
63048825, Oct 16, 2001
Filed:
May 5, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/073098
Inventors:
Eric G. Strellis - Albany CA
Alan Bram - San Francisco CA
Richard N. Hillegas - San Francisco CA
Jeffrey Lichtman - El Cerrito CA
Nathaniel G. Wyatt - Berkeley CA
Assignee:
Informix Software, Inc. - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
707202
Abstract:
A data replication processing system includes a source database system and one or more target database systems all of which are coupled through a network. The replication processing system provides a replication protocol that allows for the source database and the target databases to remain consistent and in agreement. A method for the replication processing system includes having a target database request a refresh of its subset of the source database from the source database system. The source database system receives the refresh request message and constructs a refresh reply message that includes transactions from the source and the target. The target database system receives the refresh reply message from the source database system and applies the changes to its subset of the source database so that the two databases are in agreement with respect to their appropriate data sets.

Distributed Pipes And Fifos In A Multiprocessor

View page
US Patent:
59681349, Oct 19, 1999
Filed:
Oct 3, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/947495
Inventors:
Franco Putzolu - San Francisco CA
Srinivasa D. Murthy - San Jose CA
Alan M. Usas - Los Altos CA
Gary F. Tom - San Jose CA
Minoo Gupta - Fremont CA
Eric G. Strellis - Albany CA
Assignee:
Tandem Computers Incorporated - Cupertino CA
International Classification:
G06F 15163
US Classification:
709302
Abstract:
A multiprocessor that includes a virtual file system providing a file system interface to user application code. This interface allows users to access files in many types of file systems in a consistent, file system-independent manner. In a preferred embodiment, the higher interface of the file system is the Posix file system interface, though it can be any file system interface supporting the capabilities required by a user process. The Posix file system supports regular files, pipes, fifos and special files. A pipe server, a pipe library and a name server together implement the fifo semantics required by the Posix standard for Posix processes. The present invention provides these fifo capabilities to any process which uses the Posix interfaces.
