Cable Protection System Including A Conduit Body And A Clip

View page
US Patent:
48011185, Jan 31, 1989
Filed:
Jan 4, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/142290
Inventors:
Eigil Wium - Cheshire CT
Assignee:
General Signal Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
B66D 136
US Classification:
248300
Abstract:
A cable guard for use with conduit bodies to faciliate low friction and low abrasion, threading or pulling of cable through cable openings in the body. The cable guard consists of a tubular clip having a longitudinal or elongated slot extending its entire length and adapted to fit in gripping and removeable engagement with the rim or lip portion of the conduit body access opening. The clip also has a pair of notches positioned at opposite ends and opposite the longitudinal slot to facilitate installation of the clip at the narrow end of an elongated conduit body access opening and to prevent the clip from rolling when in use. The clip has still another pair of notches positioned intermediate its ends and on opposite sides of the longitudinal slot to facilitate removal of the clip from the conduit body.

Hazardous Location Expansion Fitting

US Patent:
45581738, Dec 10, 1985
Filed:
Aug 30, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/412478
Inventors:
Padej Gajajiva - Fairfield CT
Eigil Wium - Cheshire CT
Assignee:
General Signal Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
H02G 1508
US Classification:
174 86
Abstract:
A fitting which couples two conduit members in a manner to permit relative longitudinal motion therebetween and which prevents the gases within the fitting from escaping at a temperature which might ignite an external ambient atmosphere. One form of the fitting includes a bushing affixed to an end of one of the conduit members and positioned and configured to mate with the interior of a body member affixed to an end of the other conduit member to permit sliding motion therebetween. The bushing has sufficient surface area in close proximity to the interior surface of the body member as to cause any gases passed between the bushing and body member to approach a temperature equilibrium with the body member.

Fill Control For Sealing Chamber In Drainable Enclosure For Explosion-Proof Electrical System

US Patent:
42163498, Aug 5, 1980
Filed:
Jun 29, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/053614
Inventors:
Eigil Wium - Cheshire CT
Assignee:
General Signal Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
H02B 302
US Classification:
174 50
Abstract:
An electrical fitting for use in a conduit run which includes a sealing chamber into which a compound is placed to prevent the passage of gasses, vapors, or flames from one end of the fitting to the other. The fitting includes a drainage port to prevent the collection of water and a filling port through which the sealing compound is placed in the sealing chamber. The drainage port and sealing chamber have coplanar upper limits whereby any excess sealing compound placed in the sealing chamber is drained off through the drainage port. An interior shield member of the body shields the upper opening of the drainage port whereby no sealing compound can enter the drainage port directly from the filling port. Thus, there can be no flow of sealing compound through the drainage port until the sealing chamber has been filled. Underfill and overfill of the sealing chamber are prevented, and no core or plug projects upward from the drainage port during filling.

Drainable Enclosure For Explosion-Proof Electrical Systems

US Patent:
44671369, Aug 21, 1984
Filed:
Nov 25, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/324923
Inventors:
Eigil Wium - Cheshire CT
Assignee:
General Signal Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
H02G 304
US Classification:
174 50
Abstract:
A hazardous location sealing fitting is provided with a multipart assembly so that the fill and drain opening may be maintained in a vertical orientation irrespective of the conduit orientation. The main body member comprises a "T" with a service port through which a fiber dam is placed to limit the volume of the sealing chamber. Subsequently, an auxiliary body member is coupled to the main body member at the service port. The auxiliary body member includes the fill and drain port together with a barrier dam and baffle for limiting the amount of sealing compound placed in the sealing chamber and directing the sealing compound into the sealing chamber, respectively. Because the main and auxiliary body members comprise separate parts, the fill port may be positioned with its axis in a vertical plane irrespective of the orientation of the axis of the conduit coupled to the main body member.
