System And Method For Venting Fuel Vapors In An Internal Combustion Engine

View page
US Patent:
8281769, Oct 9, 2012
Filed:
Oct 15, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/579717
Inventors:
Eric B. Hudak - Sheboygan WI, US
Travis D. Schisel - Cato WI, US
Edward A. Uebelher - Oshkosh WI, US
Assignee:
Kohler Co. - Kohler WI
International Classification:
F02M 37/20
F16K 24/00
US Classification:
123516, 123518, 137587, 137588, 137590
Abstract:
An evaporative venting system for use in an internal combustion engine and a method for venting fuel vapors are disclosed. The evaporative venting system includes a containment chamber at least in indirect communication with a fuel tank and a passageway defined within the containment chamber and having an inlet opening and an outlet opening. The inlet opening is at least indirectly in communication with the fuel tank and the outlet opening is at least indirectly in communication with an evaporative chamber such that the passageway provides a vent path between the fuel tank and the evaporative chamber such that the vent path allows for both the venting of fuel vapors from the fuel tank and the intake of air into the fuel tank during all angles of positioning of the fuel tank.

Flywheel Assembly

View page
US Patent:
20090120401, May 14, 2009
Filed:
Oct 17, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/253363
Inventors:
Russell J. Dopke - Elkhart Lake WI, US
Roger W. Albert - Plymouth WI, US
Jonathan T. Bykowski - Shorewood WI, US
Edward A. Uebelher - Oshkosh WI, US
International Classification:
F16H 33/02
F01P 7/02
F16C 15/00
US Classification:
1231921, 123 4165, 745722
Abstract:
A system for a flywheel assembly for use in conjunction with an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The flywheel assembly includes a flywheel in rotational association with a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. The flywheel assembly further includes a cooling fan mounted over the flywheel, and capable of rotation therewith. The cooling fan and the flywheel are secured in a constant axial position relative to the crankshaft by virtue of a drive-cup and a retaining nut. Further, the flywheel includes a plurality of integrally formed, intersecting support ribs, for providing excellent dynamic stiffening (e.g., damping) capabilities to the flywheel assembly for substantially reducing and/or eliminating radiated noise.

Engine Balance System

View page
US Patent:
20090229559, Sep 17, 2009
Filed:
Mar 10, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/401146
Inventors:
Michael E. Smies - Waldo WI, US
Edward A. Uebelher - Oshkosh WI, US
International Classification:
F02B 75/06
US Classification:
1231922
Abstract:
A balance system for implementation within an engine crankcase, as well as an engine employing such a system and a method of balancing forces as performed by such a system, are disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the balance system includes a crankshaft with at least one eccentric portion and a counterbalance assembly having at least one connecting arm and a counterbalance weight with first and second ends, where each of the at least one connecting arm includes a respective circular orifice that is positioned around and supported by a respective one of the at least one eccentric portion. The balance system further includes first and second hinged arms rotatably coupled proximate the first and second ends of the counterbalance weight, respectively, where the arms at least indirectly link the ends of the counterbalance weight to a portion of the engine crankcase and guide movement of the counterbalance weight.
