Method And System For Analyzing An On-Board Vehicle Computer System

View page
US Patent:
6529808, Mar 4, 2003
Filed:
Apr 22, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/127248
Inventors:
Earl D. Diem - Ortonville MI
Assignee:
Delphi Technologies, Inc. - Troy MI
International Classification:
G06F 700
US Classification:
701 29, 701 30, 701 33, 702185
Abstract:
An On-Board Diagnostics/Inspection Maintenance (OBD/IM) Vehicle Analysis System (OVAS) includes the hardware and software necessary to access the onboard computer systems on 1996 and newer vehicles, determine On-Board Diagnostics Generation II (OBDII) readiness, and recover stored fault codes using the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) standardized link. The analyzer is designed to guide the inspector through the OBDII inspection sequence for a particular vehicle and record the results. Information regarding OBDII scanning anomalies (such as ânot readyâ status of 1996 Subarus) is maintained in the OBD Vehicle Lookup Table (VLT). In addition, information regarding the Data Link Collector (DLC) location is maintained for 1996 and newer vehicles in the OBD-VLT. This information is downloaded to the OVAS analyzers upon initialization and when the OBD-VLT is updated, and is automatically displayed when vehicles undergoing testing match the vehicle criteria (such as make, model, and model year).

Sensor Assembly And Method For Non-Intrusively Sensing Instantaneous Speed Of The Engine Of A Vehicle

View page
US Patent:
6786084, Sep 7, 2004
Filed:
Jan 13, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/340970
Inventors:
Thaddeus Schroeder - Rochester Hills MI
Earl D. Diem - Ortonville MI
Laci J. Jalics - Ray MI
Francis E. Szczublewski - Macomb MI
Assignee:
Delphi Technologies, Inc. - Troy MI
International Classification:
G01M 1500
US Classification:
731173
Abstract:
Sensor assembly and method for non-intrusively sensing instantaneous speed of an engine are provided. The engine includes a crankshaft have a respective end connected to an externally accessible bolt. The sensor assembly comprises a housing including a recess configured to affixingly engage the externally accessible bolt. The sensor assembly further comprises at least one motion-sensing device configured to provide a respective output signal indicative of angular motion information of the crankshaft. A signal transmitter coupled to the motion-sensing device configured to wirelessly transmit the output signal from the motion-sensing device.

Non-Intrusive Diagnostic Tool For Sensing Oxygen Sensor Operation

View page
US Patent:
6947817, Sep 20, 2005
Filed:
Nov 3, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/700007
Inventors:
Earl D. Diem - Ortonville MI, US
Assignee:
Delphi Technologies, Inc. - Troy MI
International Classification:
G06F019/00
US Classification:
701 34, 701 29, 701107, 340438
Abstract:
A diagnostic testing system for a vehicle includes an oxygen sensor, an analyzer having a user interface, and a communications link between the analyzer and the vehicle to obtain data from the oxygen sensor. A diagnostic heuristic is used to analyze the data and confirm proper operation of the sensor; and an output is generated by said diagnostic heuristic to the user interface.

Computer-Implemented System And Method For Evaluating The Diagnostic State Of A Component

View page
US Patent:
7073095, Jul 4, 2006
Filed:
May 14, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/144940
Inventors:
Nicholas A. Cocco - Clinton Township MI, US
Earl D. Diem - Ortonville MI, US
Assignee:
Delphi Technologies, Inc. - Troy MI
International Classification:
G06F 11/00
US Classification:
714 31, 714 25
Abstract:
A distributed computer-implemented diagnostic system for determining a diagnostic state of a component. The component exhibits measurable characteristics. The system includes a database that stores reference component characteristic data. A computer server is connected to the database, and a computer client is connected to the computer server via a network. The client computer provides data requests to the server computer in order to retrieve the component characteristic data from the database. A portable computer is connected to the computer client in order to have data access to the retrieved component characteristic data and to provide the component characteristic data for performing diagnosis. The diagnostic state of the component is determined based upon the retrieved component characteristic data as provided by the portable computer and upon at least one of the measurable characteristics of the component.
