Honor & Awards:
In 2011 the website I designed, svherald.com, received the Inland Press Association’s 2011 Community Leadership Award for our coverage of the Monument Fire, which effected thousands of lives in our community.
While it's very rare for an IT person to be able to share in the pride of a newspaper award, since we often have very little to do with the coverage, in this case the Inland Press Association credited some of the technology I developed on our site as part of the reason for the award.
While this accomplishment was a complete team effort from our reporters to our publisher, graphics designers, and editors, I take an extreme amount of pride in the work I was able to provide to the coverage to keep residents informed of evacuation zones and to keep the servers running and stable through extremely high loads and a chaotic amount of panic.
