Knowledge of basic and commonly used medical equipment, gather and report patient information, monitor vital signs, urinary catheterizations, rectal drainage tubes, venipuncture for IV site or lab draw, blood glucose testing, prepare and administer commonly prescribed medications, knowledge sufficient to recognize adverse medical reactions, and perform procedures such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), as needed. Assist physician with patient care and treatments as needed. Prepare the patients for their procedure, test, or surgery and monitor the patient after returning. Knowledge base sufficient to change sterile dressings, and maintain the sterile condition, non-sterile dressing changes, as well as complex dressings for PEG tubes, Tracheostomy tubes, dressings around external fixators, and wound vacuum dressings. Respond to emergencies using first aid or lifesaving procedures as necessary. Conduct patient and family teaching, assist with activities of daily life (ADL's), and assist with physical therapy.
