Track Bushing Providing External Deposits Of Wear Resistant Material

View page
US Patent:
40422828, Aug 16, 1977
Filed:
Dec 24, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/644370
Inventors:
Glenn M. Haslett - Peoria IL
Dennis L. Blunier - Danvers IL
Assignee:
Caterpillar Tractor Co. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
B60S 168
B62D 5520
US Classification:
305 11
Abstract:
A track chain includes a plurality of track pin bushings as is well known, to seat in recesses defined by a drive sprocket. Each track pin bushing defines a plurality of angled protrusions which act as wear surfaces between the bushing and the sprocket, and also act to force foreign matter from recesses of the sprocket in which bushings are seatable.

Track Link Assembly Having Roller Bushings

View page
US Patent:
41205375, Oct 17, 1978
Filed:
Apr 15, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/787814
Inventors:
Robert D. Roley - Peoria IL
Glenn M. Haslett - Peoria IL
Dennis L. Blunier - Danvers IL
Assignee:
Caterpillar Tractor Co. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
B62D 5520
US Classification:
305 14
Abstract:
A track link assembly including a plurality of track links having track pin receiving apertures therein, a plurality of track pins extending through associated ones of the apertures and pivotally interconnecting adjacent ones of the links, a plurality of roller bushings rotatably mounted on the ends of the pins, and a plurality of track shoes secured to respective ones of the links.

Apparatus And Method For Selectively Forming A Thickened Edge On A Plate Of Formable Material

View page
US Patent:
50240749, Jun 18, 1991
Filed:
May 19, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/354187
Inventors:
Dennis L. Blunier - Danvers IL
Phillip J. Shankwitz - Peoria IL
Maurice L. Caudill - Peoria IL
Ronald C. Bowar - Chillicothe IL
Dwight E. Aussieker - Varna IL
Assignee:
Caterpillar Inc. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
B21D 1900
B21D 1904
US Classification:
72 16
Abstract:
In conventional fabrication manufacture the thickness of the steel plates are often determined by the metal section required at the weld joints. The subject apparatus and method overcomes this problem by selectively forming a thickened edge along the edge of a thinner steel plate which can now be limited to the thickness required to withstand the stresses on the fabrication. The thickened edge is produced by forcing a plate supported by a table, by passing the plate through a forming apparatus comprised of a combination of rollers. The forming apparatus and table are automatically controlled to produce a thickened edge of constant shape along a non-linear edge of the plate.

US Patent:
51136775, May 19, 1992
Filed:
May 9, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/698009
Inventors:
Dennis L. Blunier - Danvers IL
Phillip J. Shankwitz - Raleigh NC
Maurice L. Caudill - Peoria IL
Paul D. Andreson - Mishawaka IN
Richard R. Kazmierzak - South Bend IN
Joel C. Schweisberger - Granger IN
Assignee:
Caterpillar Inc. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
B21B 3714
B21B 3934
B23C 112
G06F 1546
US Classification:
72 7
The thickened edge is produced by passing a plate supported on a table through a forming apparatus having a forming roller. The table is movable in an oblique direction relative to the plate so that the shape of the thickened edge may be varied. The forming apparatus and table are automatically controlled to produce a thickened edge of a desired shape intermittently or continuously along a linear or non-linear edge of the plate.

Method Of Mounting Track Pin

View page
US Patent:
41411250, Feb 27, 1979
Filed:
Dec 6, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/857949
Inventors:
Dennis L. Blunier - Danvers IL
Assignee:
Caterpillar Tractor Co. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
B21H 700
B21K 1900
US Classification:
291483
Abstract:
A track pin has the ends thereof mounted in bores defined by respective track links. The ends of the track pin are heated above the critical temperature of the steel making up the track pin, and then quenched, whereby the ends of the track pin have increased in volume to be retained in the bores of the respective track links.

Track Shoe And Bolt Retention Arrangement

View page
US Patent:
41052609, Aug 8, 1978
Filed:
Dec 22, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/753602
Inventors:
Dennis L. Blunier - Danvers IL
Donald E. Clemens - Tremont IL
Assignee:
Caterpillar Tractor Co. - Peoria IL
International Classification:
B62D 5528
US Classification:
305 54
Abstract:
In the track of a track-type vehicle, the track shoes are bolted and keyed to the track line to substantially reduce or eliminate shear and bending stresses on the bolts. The elimination or reduction of movement resulting in shear on the bolts between the track shoe and the master link is of particular importance.
