Actuator Mechanism For An External Circuit Breaker Operating Device

View page
US Patent:
6504460, Jan 7, 2003
Filed:
Apr 17, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/836427
Inventors:
Dean Basil DeGrazia - Pittsburgh PA
Erik Russell Bogdon - Carnegie PA
James Alan Trax - Oakdale PA
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01H 300
US Classification:
335 68, 200329
Abstract:
An actuator mechanism, for a circuit breaker having an operating handle, which includes a slider assembly and a mounting plate assembly. The slider assembly has a rigid, generally planar member with at least one notch. The mounting plate assembly has at least two generally parallel, spaced flanges and is structured to mount on the circuit breaker housing. One of the at least two flanges is structured to cooperate with the notch to allow the slider assembly to be slidably coupled to the mounting plate between the at least two flanges.

Adjustment Screw Cover For Motor Operators

View page
US Patent:
6577214, Jun 10, 2003
Filed:
May 7, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/140690
Inventors:
Dean Basil DeGrazia - Pittsburgh PA
Erik Russel Bogdon - Carnegie PA
Dominic Patrick Martelli - McKees Rocks PA
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01H 300
US Classification:
335 68, 200 43, 200401, 200331
Abstract:
A sliding cover plate for the adjustment screws of a circuit breaker is slidably mounted on the housing of a motor operator. The sliding adjustment plate includes snap-in tabs for engaging slots within the motor operator housing, permitting the cover to be snapped in place, and then slidably moved between a position wherein the adjustment screws are covered, and a position wherein the adjustment screws are exposed. The cover may be secured in the position wherein the adjustment screws are covered. The cover includes a first portion defining apertures corresponding to two adjustment screws, and a third, detachable portion defining an aperture for a third adjustment screw, thereby permitting the cover plate to be utilized with both three-pole and four-pole circuit breakers.

Locking Mechanism For A Rotary Handle Operator

View page
US Patent:
6596952, Jul 22, 2003
Filed:
May 8, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/141163
Inventors:
Dean Basil Degrazia - Pittsburgh PA
Andrew James Male - Export PA
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01H 320
US Classification:
200330, 200 4316
Abstract:
A rotary handle operator for a circuit breaker includes a lock plate having a live spring, formed as one piece with the lock plate, for biasing the lock plate in its unlocked position. With the lock plate in this unlocked position, rotation of the rotary handle operators handle will actuate movement of a sliding member within the rotary handle operator, thereby moving the operating lever of the circuit breaker from its on position to its off position, and vice versa. When the rotating handle is in its off position, the lock plate may be pivoted against the bias of the springs so that the lock plate fits within a slot in the housing of the rotary handle operator, thereby resisting movement of the handle. In this position, an aperture dimensioned and configured to receive the shackle of a lock protrudes upward from the handle, permitting insertion of a lock to secure the lock plate in this locked position.

Universal Motor Bracket For Motor Operators

View page
US Patent:
7021599, Apr 4, 2006
Filed:
May 6, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/839856
Inventors:
Dean Basil DeGrazia - Pittsburgh PA, US
Erik Russell Bogdon - Carnegie PA, US
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
F16M 1/00
US Classification:
248645, 248674, 248678, 248911, 310 91
Abstract:
A mounting bracket for the motor within a motor operator for a circuit breaker may be secured within the motor operator's housing a first orientation, thereby permitting it to support a first type of motor. Placing the mounting bracket within the housing in a second orientation permits the mounting bracket to accommodate a second type of motor.

Molded Case Circuit Breaker With Current Flow Indicating Handle Mechanism

View page
US Patent:
61949833, Feb 27, 2001
Filed:
Aug 30, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/385392
Inventors:
Erik R. Bogdon - Carnegie PA
Dean B. DeGrazia - Pittsburgh PA
H. Richard Beck - Moon Township PA
Gary R. Funk - Murrysville PA
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01H 300
US Classification:
335 68
Abstract:
A circuit interrupter handle mechanism is disposed on the face of a molded case circuit breaker. The handle mechanism has a rotary handle, which may be rotated through approximately 90. degree. of rotation from a disposition of circuit interrupter conduction to a disposition of circuit interrupter non-conduction. The handle is not centered over the linear handle of the circuit interrupter per say, but rather is disposed in the upper left hand corner, so that a larger lever arm can be utilized. Furthermore, the larger lever has a handle opening into which the hasp of a lock may be placed to lock the circuit breaker in the open state for servicing and the like. Because of the length of the handle more hasps can be disposed therein than if the handle was disposed exactly in the center of the circuit breaker case. Lastly, the disposition of the circuit breaker rotary handle provides an indication of the conduction status of the molded case circuit breaker. If the handle is in a generally horizontal position, i. e.
