Torque-Limiting Device

View page
US Patent:
7938046, May 10, 2011
Filed:
Jun 23, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/822040
Inventors:
John Nino - Simi Valley CA, US
David Ivinson - Camarillo CA, US
Assignee:
ECA Medical Instruments - Newbury Park CA
International Classification:
B25B 23/157
US Classification:
81475
Abstract:
A torque-limiting driver has a handle, a body, a torque-limiting assembly and a work-piece engaging tip. The torque-limiting assembly includes an upper and lower shank that have a plurality of teeth circumferentially spaced. The teeth have a vertical face, an inclined face and a flat peak. The inclined face is defined by a radius of curvature that transitions to the flat peak. There is a spring for applying pressure across the upper and lower shank. The teeth engage for relative rotation when the handle is turned and disengage when a predetermined value of torque is exceeded.

US Patent:
20120198972, Aug 9, 2012
Filed:
Jul 26, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/191203
Inventors:
John Nino - Simi Valley CA, US
David Ivinson - Camarillo CA, US
International Classification:
B25B 23/153
A61B 17/88
US Classification:
81471
Abstract:
A torque-limiting driver has a handle, a body, a torque-limiting assembly and a work-piece engaging tip. The torque-limiting assembly includes an upper and lower shank that have a plurality of teeth circumferentially spaced. The teeth have a vertical face, an inclined face, and a flat peak. There is a spring for applying pressure across the upper and lower shank with multiple washers interposed between the lower shaft and spring. In some instances, there is a round square drive with arched catches having preselected radii to assure operation over certain cycles at selected torque and to reduced nose cone damage and breakage at a predetermined inch pounds of torque.

Ultra High Torque Device

US Patent:
20130199345, Aug 8, 2013
Filed:
Apr 29, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/695812
Inventors:
John Nino - Simi Valley CA, US
David Ivinson - Camarillo CA, US
International Classification:
A61B 19/00
B25B 23/142
US Classification:
81473, 173 1
Abstract:
A torque-limiting device may include a shaft extending axially through upper and lower shanks and a spring to connect to a nut. The upper and lower shanks may be under a force from the spring and further configured to selectively engage within a predetermined torque limit and disengage at above the predetermined torque limit. Accordingly, the shaft may receive torque up to the predetermined limit as provided by a user operating a handle of the torque-limiting device. The torque-limiting device may be disposable, reusable, economical, and have high torque capabilities.
