Fastening Arrangement

View page
US Patent:
50590740, Oct 22, 1991
Filed:
Aug 20, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/570105
Inventors:
Ferdinand A. Guevarra - Chicago IL
David H. Devonald - Glenview IL
Assignee:
S&C Electric Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
F16B 3702
F16B 3900
US Classification:
411107
Abstract:
A fastener arrangement is provided for the clamping together of two objects, such as the adjacent sidewalls of enclosures or the like. The fastener arrangement is used with predetermined aligned openings in the objects to be fastened and is installable from either side of the objects. The fastener arrangement includes a first member insertable through the predetermined aligned openings from either side of the two objects. The first member includes two spaced-apart, facing clamping surfaces. Upon insertion of the first member into the installed position, each of the clamping surfaces engages one of the respective sidewalls. After insertion of the first member, the desired clamping force is applied. In a specific embodiment, the first member carries a threaded stud that extends from the side from which it is installed. A nut is assembled onto the stud to apply the clamping force.

Switchgear Module And Configurations, And Method Of Fabrication And Assembly Thereof

US Patent:
55215670, May 28, 1996
Filed:
Apr 8, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/225218
Inventors:
David H. Devonald - Green Oaks IL
James A. Hansen - Morton Grove IL
Henry W. Kowalyshen - Niles IL
Chester H. Lin - Lincolnwood IL
Buddy B. McGlone - Lombard IL
James K. Niemira - Skokie IL
Edward J. Rogers - Chicago IL
Edward A. Steele - Gurnee IL
Assignee:
S&C Electric Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
H01H 6702
US Classification:
335132
Abstract:
A switchgear module is provided that is assembled from one or more molded housing portions to provide a gas-tight volume for the housing of electrical components. The switchgear modules include provisions for assembly of various combinations of switchgear modules into a variety of electrical circuit configurations while maintaining a gas seal of the switchgear modules. In a preferred arrangement, the switchgear module includes bus conductors that are integrally incorporated during the molding of the switchgear module housing and that are accessible from opposite sides of the module. Further, the switchgear module includes integrally molded features for providing access to make electrical interconnections between the bus conductors of adjacently positioned switchgear modules. Thus, the finally assembled and tested switchgear modules with pressurized internal volume may be configured to provide a variety of different electrical circuit combinations of the internal components and are also capable of being reconfigured as desired into different configurations or lineups without the loss of the seal of the interior volume of the switchgear modules. The switchgear module includes a complete internal and integral system to satisfy desirable operating practices to deenergize, test and ground the circuit before working thereon.

US Patent:
58552901, Jan 5, 1999
Filed:
Aug 29, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/708170
Inventors:
Phillip J. Fahey - Evanston IL
David H. Devonald - Green Oaks IL
Edmund S. Dizon - Chicago IL
John W. Estey - Glenview IL
Assignee:
S&C Electric Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
B65D 1100
US Classification:
220 428
Abstract:
Switchgear is provided including an enclosure for pad-mounted installation. The enclosure includes large lift-up cover panels in combination with removable front panels so as to provide unobstructed access to the interior of the enclosure. In a preferred arrangement, the enclosure houses switchgear that includes low-voltage control and viewing arrangements that are operable from a first side of the switchgear and medium-voltage cable terminations that are accessible from a second side of the switchgear opposite the first side, the enclosure providing access to the low-voltage arrangements while providing isolation from the medium-voltage arrangements. The enclosure also includes protection from the environment in the area of the lift-up cover panels while also providing collapsible lifting members.

Interconnection Arrangement For Electrical Equipment Enclosures

View page
US Patent:
55787924, Nov 26, 1996
Filed:
Sep 15, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/308162
Inventors:
David H. Devonald - Green Oaks IL
Leonard V. Chabala - Maywood IL
Albert F. Cowsky - Elk Grove Village IL
Michael P. O'Dell - Oak Park IL
International Classification:
H05K 502
H02B 700
H02B 104
US Classification:
174 50
Abstract:
An interconnection arrangement is provided for the appropriate interconnection of predetermined assemblies and modules affixed to the exterior of an enclosure of pad-mounted gear, while also shielding the interconnections from the medium-voltage sections of the pad-mounted gear. The interconnection arrangement may be utilized either during manufacture of the pad-mounted gear or as a field retrofit installation. The interconnection arrangement includes a base assembly which defines predetermined enclosed cable pathways through which the interconnecting conductors are routed. The interconnecting conductors are provided by preassembled and pre-routed cable harnesses within the defined cable pathways. The interconnection arrangement also includes internal and external duct structures that extend the cable pathways through the base assembly and into the individual enclosures for the assemblies and modules affixed to the exterior of the enclosure of the pad-mounted gear. The interconnection arrangement is of modular design so as to be easily configurable for installation to different configurations of pad-mounted gear and affixed assemblies.
