Filed:
Jun 15, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/524108
Inventors:
Phil Fleming - Glen Ellyn IL, US
Shirish Nagaraj - Hoffman Estates IL, US
Alan Rottinghaus - Barrington IL, US
Roy Yang - Buffalo Grove IL, US
Yuda Luz - Buffalo Grove IL, US
David Baietto - Crystal Lake IL, US
Gerald Gutowski - Glenview IL, US
International Classification:
H04W 88/00
US Classification:
4555621
Abstract:
A method includes selecting a subset k of N accessible antennas to use to process a transmission received at the N antennas and sent by a user equipment, and processing the transmission from the user equipment at least by using baseband information from the k antennas. An apparatus includes one or more processors and one or more memories including computer program code. The one or more memories and the computer program code are configured to, with the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following: selecting a subset k of N accessible antennas to use to process a transmission received at the N antennas and sent by a user equipment; and processing the transmission from the user equipment at least by using baseband information from the k antennas. Additional apparatus, computer programs, and computer program products are disclosed.

Switching Between Remote Radio Heads

US Patent:
20130294418, Nov 7, 2013
Filed:
May 4, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/464146
Inventors:
Ivan Vukovic - Arlington Heights IL, US
Shirish Nagaraj - Hoffman Estates IL, US
David Baietto - Crystal Lake IL, US
Igor Filipovich - Chicago IL, US
International Classification:
H04W 56/00
H04W 74/08
H04W 72/04
US Classification:
370336, 370328
Abstract:
An exemplary embodiment in accordance with this invention provides a method of managing a set of uplink reception paths and controlling the timing of uplink transmission of a UE. The method includes selecting a dominant path from a plurality of paths based at least in part on measurements of the plurality of paths. A path describes a communication route from a mobile device to an access point via a RRH. The method also includes selecting a plurality of non-dominant serving paths from the plurality of paths based at least in part on the measurements; determining a timing window based at least in part on the dominant path; determining a TA for the mobile device based at least in part on the timing window and sending the TA to the mobile device. Apparatus and computer readable media are also described.

Cell Clustering And Aperture Selection

US Patent:
20130170574, Jul 4, 2013
Filed:
Jun 15, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/524357
Inventors:
Phil FLEMING - Glen Ellyn IL, US
Shirish Nagaraj - Hoffman Estates IL, US
Alan Rottinghaus - Barrington IL, US
Roy Yang - Buffalo Grove IL, US
Yuda Luz - Buffalo Grove IL, US
David Baietto - Crystal Lake IL, US
International Classification:
H04B 7/02
US Classification:
375267
Abstract:
A method is disclosed that includes accessing baseband information for a number, N (N>1), of antennas accessible by a number of baseband units, where the baseband information correspond to a transmission by a user equipment and is received at the N antennas. The method includes determining values for one or more metrics for the baseband information for the N antennas. The method includes selecting, based on the determined values, a subset k of the N antennas and corresponding baseband information to use to determine output data for the transmission by the user equipment. The method includes determining the output data for the user equipment using the baseband information from the k antennas. Apparatus and computer program products are also disclosed.

Transportation Of User Plane Data Across A Split Fronthaul Interface

US Patent:
20180042003, Feb 8, 2018
Filed:
Aug 5, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/229327
Inventors:
- Espoo, FI
Alan Rottinghaus - Barrington IL, US
David Baietto - Crystal Lake IL, US
Yuda Luz - Buffalo Grove IL, US
International Classification:
H04W 72/04
H04W 56/00
H04W 76/02
Abstract:
This specification describes a method comprising generating a first packet based on user plane data relating to a single user which is output by a first L1 PHY processing stage, the first packet including a proper subset of the user plane data which is to be transmitted to the user equipment during a first time-slot symbol; passing the first packet to a second L1 PHY processing stage across a split fronthaul interface in a first time period having a duration corresponding to a duration of transmission of the first time-slot symbol; and passing one or more subsequent packets including the remainder of the user plane data across the split fronthaul interface in one or more successive time periods which are immediately subsequent to the first time period.

US Patent:
20180042040, Feb 8, 2018
Filed:
Jan 18, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/408874
Inventors:
- Espoo, FI
Alan Rottinghaus - Barrington IL, US
David Baietto - Crystal Lake IL, US
Yuda Luz - Buffalo Grove IL, US
International Classification:
H04W 72/12
Abstract:
An exemplary method includes determining, at a centralized processing apparatus of a wireless network, a first subset of downlink user plane data corresponding to one or more wireless user equipments at least by calculating input data required at each of one or more L1 PHY processing stages of a remote processing apparatus, wherein the first subset includes bits required by a remote processing apparatus to select a first symbol for transmission to the one or more user equipments at a first time slot; and streaming, via a fronthaul interface, the bits of the first subset followed by bits of one or more further subset of downlink user plane data, wherein the bits of the further subset of user plane data includes only the bits required to select by the remote processing apparatus a next symbol for transmission to the one or more of the wireless user equipments at a next time slot immediately following the first time slot.
