Volume Reducer For Pressurizing Engine Hydraulic System

View page
US Patent:
20030041841, Mar 6, 2003
Filed:
Sep 4, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/946072
Inventors:
Darrel Meffert - Sparland IL, US
International Classification:
F02M001/00
US Classification:
123/447000, 123/179160, 123/456000
Abstract:
A hydraulically activated fuel injection system uses a common rail that is maintained at relatively high pressure by a pump when the engine is running. During start-up, a volume reducer is used to pressurize the common rail until the pump can take over. A member of the volume reducer protrudes through one end of the common rail and is movable into and out of the common rail. When the ignition is activated, the member advances into the common rail causing the fluid volume to decrease and the pressure within the hydraulic system to increase, thereby allowing activation of the fuel injectors and starting the engine before the system pump is able to supply high pressure fluid to the common rail. Once the pump is able to sustain system pressure to the desired level, the member can retract to its original position.

Exhaust Particulate Filter For A Machine Engine System And Assembly Method Therefor

View page
US Patent:
20080236118, Oct 2, 2008
Filed:
Mar 27, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/728905
Inventors:
Robert L. Meyer - Metamora IL, US
Darrel H. Meffert - Sparland IL, US
Michael J. Pollard - Peoria IL, US
Herbert F.M. Dacosta - Peoria IL, US
Ronak Shah - Peoria IL, US
International Classification:
B01D 50/00
B21D 39/00
US Classification:
55482, 29428
Abstract:
An exhaust particulate filter for an engine system includes a housing having an inlet, an outlet and a shell shaped to fit the particulate filter within a predefined spatial envelope. Filter elements arranged in a bundle and having a packing arrangement are positioned within the housing. Each of the filter elements includes a perforated tube wrapped with fibrous metallic filter media. The bundle defines a perimetric line at least partially matched to the shape of the shell. An assembly method for a particulate filter includes arranging filter elements in a packing structure within a bundle, the bundle having peripherally located filter elements and internally located filter elements. The filter elements each include a perforated tube wrapped with fibrous metallic filter media. The assembly method further includes positioning the bundle of filter elements within a housing having a shape at least partially matched to a shape of the bundle. A unique method of joining various of the components via swagging is also disclosed. Clamping of the filter media, and joints between filter element and support plates, may be achieved via swagging, for example.

Track Drive System And Method

View page
US Patent:
20140032046, Jan 30, 2014
Filed:
Jul 24, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/556505
Inventors:
Darrel Henry Meffert - Sahuarita AZ, US
International Classification:
B62D 11/02
US Classification:
701 41
Abstract:
The disclosure may provide a method of driving a mobile machine that includes a left-side track assembly and a right-side track assembly for propelling the machine and an implement for performing work. The method may include determining whether the machine is traveling approximately straight forward or backward, and determining whether a load exerted on the implement is less than a threshold load value. A signal may be output, with a controller, to adjust a speed of the left-side track assembly or a speed of the right-side track assembly when the machine is traveling approximately straight forward or backward and the load exerted on the implement is less than the threshold load value, to thereby bring the left-side track assembly out of phase with the right-side track assembly.
