High Performance Multi-Mode Palmprint And Fingerprint Scanning Device And System

View page
US Patent:
8320645, Nov 27, 2012
Filed:
Sep 4, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/204558
Inventors:
Daniel Frederick Maase - Plymouth MN, US
Assignee:
Identix Incorporated - Bloomington MN
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
US Classification:
382124, 382126, 382127
Abstract:
Systems, devices and methods for providing rolled fingerprint capture and palm capture capability in a device having reduced size are provided. In certain embodiments, the systems and methods provide capture of rolled fingerprints, slap fingerprints and palm prints in one continuous workflow in a compact device. In certain embodiments, moisture discriminating optics and/or enhanced definition image formation previously achieved only in devices designed for capturing only fingerprints are provided. In certain embodiments, the systems employ a single scanning device to capture 500 ppi and/or 1000 ppi palm and fingerprint images.

Optically Based Planar Scanner

View page
US Patent:
8354640, Jan 15, 2013
Filed:
Sep 9, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/878535
Inventors:
John D. Hamre - Plymouth MN, US
Daniel F. Maase - Plymouth MN, US
Assignee:
Identix Incorporated - Bloomington MN
International Classification:
G02F 1/295
G01J 5/08
US Classification:
2503381, 385 10
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for providing an optically based planar scanner for generating an image are provided. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a switchable Bragg grating. An area of the switchable Bragg grating is configured to be activated to direct light to a platen. The platen is configured to reflect the light to a waveguide or to refract the light. The light reflected to the waveguide is guided to a light detector. By activating a number of the areas of the switchable Bragg grating and measuring the intensity of the light with a light detector, an image of an object contacting the platen may be formed.

Method And Device For Reducing Smear In A Rolled Fingerprint Image

View page
US Patent:
57487669, May 5, 1998
Filed:
Apr 30, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/640006
Inventors:
Daniel Frederick Maase - Campbell CA
Thomas Frank Sartor - Sunnyvale CA
Assignee:
Identix Incorporated - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G06K 900
G06K 920
US Classification:
382124
Abstract:
A fingerprint image capture system reduces tip smear by ceasing to update a data array characteristic of the rolled fingerprint image behind an advancing freeze column at least about half way from the trailing edge to the leading edge of a finger contact strip.

Electro-Optic Palm Scanner System Employing A Non-Planar Platen

View page
US Patent:
55283551, Jun 18, 1996
Filed:
Mar 11, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/209804
Inventors:
Daniel F. Maase - Campbell CA
Thomas F. Sartor - Sunnyvale CA
Assignee:
Idnetix Incorporated - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G06K 900
US Classification:
356 71
Abstract:
An electro-optic palm scanner system employing a non-planar platen for obtaining high quality palmprints and heelprints. The platen includes an upper contact surface having a convex portion for contacting a palm to be imaged, and a planar portion for contacting the heel of the hand. The imaging system includes an optical carriage movably secured to a frame. The carriage supports a light source, lens system, and light detector. Total internal reflection occurs when light is incident on the platen at an angle greater than a critical angle of the platen, providing identifying information. The detector may include a linear CCD array which detects ridges and valleys in the hand to obtain image data. The image data is processed and the corresponding print of the heel or hand may be displayed on a video screen, and stored. The images of the palm and heel may be merged to form a single image.

Heated Optical Platen Cover For A Fingerprint Imaging System

View page
US Patent:
58254749, Oct 20, 1998
Filed:
Oct 27, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/549152
Inventors:
Daniel Frederick Maase - Campbell CA
Assignee:
Identix Corporation - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G06K 900
US Classification:
356 71
Abstract:
The invention provides a movable cover for a finger receiving surface of an optical platen in a fingerprint imaging device. A heater incorporated into the platen cover applies controlled heat to the finger receiving surface when the cover is closed over the platen. Maintaining the finger receiving surface within a selected temperature range that is at about skin temperature helps to inhibit condensation of moisture from a subject's fingers onto the finger receiving surface.
