Flexible Foamed Polyethylene

View page
US Patent:
6653360, Nov 25, 2003
Filed:
May 22, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/152910
Inventors:
Chakra V. Gupta - Lenoir NC, 28645
International Classification:
C08J 908
US Classification:
521139, 521 81, 521 98, 521140
Abstract:
A flexible thermoplastic article is formed from a blend comprising from about 2 to about 15 weight percent of a styrene-elastomer block copolymer; from about 60 to about 90 weight percent polyolefin; from about 4 to about 15 weight percent plasticizer oil, and optionally from about 0 to about 3 weight percent of at least one additive. The additives are typically present in a concentration of from 0. 05 to about 3 weigh percent and can include those additives conventionally used in polyolefin foam compositions, including antioxidants and stabilizers, processing aids, etc. The styrene-elastomer block copolymer is preferably a tri-block copolymer structure which includes styrene end-blocks and a mid-block of a saturated olefin elastomer. A particularly suitable styrene elastomer block copolymer is a styrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene (SEBS) block copolymer. In one embodiment of the present invention, the styrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene block copolymer has a styrene/rubber ratio of from 30 to 70 with an Average Molecular Weight (M ) in the range of 50,000 to 300,000.

May 27, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/867069
Inventors:
Chakra V. Gupta - Conover NC
Brian D. Garrett - Conover NC
Assignee:
Comm/Scope Company - Catawba NC
International Classification:
H01B 718
H01B 728
US Classification:
174107
Abstract:
A corrosion-resistant electric cable has a metallic conductor, a polymeric insulating jacket surrounding the metallic conductor, and a corrosion-inhibiting powder comprised of a hydrophobic material disposed between the metallic conductor and the insulating jacket. The corrosion-inhibiting powder may be comprised of a mixture of a hydrophobic fumed silica powder and a hydrophobic polyethylene powder.

Electrical Cable With Improved Metallic Shielding Tape

View page
US Patent:
46910816, Sep 1, 1987
Filed:
Apr 16, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/852776
Inventors:
Chakra V. Gupta - Conover NC
Brian D. Garrett - Conover NC
Assignee:
Comm/Scope Company - Catawba NC
International Classification:
H01B 734
US Classification:
174105R
Abstract:
The cable shielding tape of this invention comprises a metal foil layer and a polymer supporting layer fusibly bonded directly to the aluminum foil layer and serving to structurally reinforce the foil layer. The polymer supporting layer comprises a polymer blend of a polyolefin component and an elastomeric component.

Perfluoroalkanes And Perfluoroalkane And Sulphur Hexafluoride Compositions As Aerosol Propellants

View page
US Patent:
50027573, Mar 26, 1991
Filed:
May 16, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/194104
Inventors:
Chakra V. Gupta - Conover NC
International Classification:
A61L 902
A61L 904
US Classification:
424 41
Abstract:
Perfluoroalkanes, including perfluorobutane, perfluoro propane and perfluoropentane are used in aerosol spray compositions contained within aerosol spray containers to act as propellants. Further, perfluoroalkanes are combined with sulphur hexafluoride for use as aerosol propellants. Specific examples, including insecticide formulations, are particularly set forth.

High Frequency Signal Cable With Improved Electrical Dissipation Factor And Method Of Producing Same

View page
US Patent:
48944882, Jan 16, 1990
Filed:
Feb 10, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/309831
Inventors:
Chakra V. Gupta - Conover NC
Assignee:
Comm/Scope, Inc. - Catawba NC
International Classification:
H01B 1118
H01B 1314
US Classification:
174 28
Abstract:
A cable and method for making such cable is disclosed. The cable is especially suited for high frequency applications in which electrical attenuation and dissipation factor are of critical importance. The cable comprises a tubular outer conductor, and at least one inner conductor for transmission of electrical signals. Between the inner and outer conductor is a foamed dielectric material. This dielectric is formed from the extrusion of an olefin polymer or a fluoropolymer with a blowing agent gas. Sulfurhexafluoride (SF. sub. 6), rather than environmentally unsafe chlorofluorocarbons, is used as a blowing agent to foam the dielectric.

Cable With Corrosion Inhibiting Adhesive

View page
US Patent:
45159920, May 7, 1985
Filed:
May 10, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/493375
Inventors:
Chakra V. Gupta - Hickory NC
Assignee:
CommScope Company - Catawba NC
International Classification:
H01B 728
US Classification:
174102R
Abstract:
An improved cable having a metallic inner conductor, a dielectric material surrounding the inner conductor and a metallic outer conductor or sheath comprises corrosion inhibiting adhesive disposed at the interface between at least one of the metallic conductors and the dielectric. The adhesive composition comprises a polyfunctional silane compound reacted with the metallic surface of the conductor and providing corrosion resistance thereto while also promoting bonding between the conductor and the dielectric.

Method Of Making Masterbatches Of Liquid Additives And, In Particular, Antimicrobial Masterbatches

View page
US Patent:
62848143, Sep 4, 2001
Filed:
Aug 31, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/143741
Inventors:
Chakra V. Gupta - Conover NC
International Classification:
C08K 5521
US Classification:
523122
Abstract:
A method for introducing relatively large quantities of liquid additives into polymer-containing composition includes increasing the free volume between polymer chains of the polymer(s) present in the composition and introducing at least one liquid additive into the free volume between the polymer chains. The method can optionally include the introduction of low melting additives into the polymer This method allows for the production of polymer masterbatchs from a wide variety of liquid additives that can contain upwards of 50% by weight active components. Such masterbatches can be a particularly useful technique for introducing biocides and/or antimicrobials into polymeric materials.
