Abstract:
A particular user's user-interface to a virtual world is customized based at least upon an analysis of behavioral characteristics of the user, the behavioral characteristics indicating how the user controls an avatar in the virtual world. In this regard, image-capture-or-sharing tools, avatar-appearance-editing tools, or both may be configured in the user-interface based at least upon the analysis of the behavioral characteristics. Information pertaining to results of the configuring of the user-interface may be stored in a processor-accessible memory system.

Abstract:
A device and system and a method for selecting and displaying images in accordance with attention responses of an image viewer. An image capture device captures a viewer image of a spatial region potentially containing a viewer of the image display device and a viewer detection mechanism analyzes the viewer image and determines whether a potential viewer is observing the display screen. A gaze pattern_analysis mechanism identifies a viewer response to a currently displayed image by analysis of the viewer's emotional response as revealed by the viewer's facial expression and other sensory inputs, and the selection of an image to be displayed is then modified in accordance with the indicated viewer's attention response.

Abstract:
A method for providing video images to a remote viewer using a video communication system, comprising: operating a a video communication client in a local environment connected by a communications network to a remote viewing client in a remote viewing environment; capturing video images of the local environment; analyzing the captured video images with the video analysis component to detect ongoing activity within the local environment; characterizing the detected activity within the video images with respect to attributes indicative of remote viewer interest; determining whether acceptable video images are available; receiving an indication of whether the remote viewing client is engaged or disengaged; and transmitting the acceptable video images of the ongoing activity to the remote viewing client if the remote viewing client is engaged, or alternately, if the remote viewing client is disengaged, recording the acceptable video images into a memory.
