Patient Support Systems

View page
US Patent:
20110302719, Dec 15, 2011
Filed:
Jun 13, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/158830
Inventors:
Jay Schwirian - Monongahela PA, US
Tushar Shah - Newtown Square PA, US
Bradley Yakam - New Albany OH, US
Assignee:
AMERICAN HOME HEALTH CARE, INC. - Westerville OH
International Classification:
A47C 27/08
US Classification:
5706
Abstract:
Patient support systems are generally disclosed. An example patient support system may include a base; first and second longitudinally oriented sidewalls extending upward from lateral side portions of the base; a substantially vapor-impermeable barrier on the top surface of the base and on inwardly facing surfaces of the sidewalls; a substantially vapor-permeable top cover extending between the sidewalls such that a generally longitudinally oriented channel configured to receive airflow therethrough is substantially defined by a lower surface of the top cover, an upper surface of the barrier on the base, and inwardly facing surfaces of the barrier on the sidewalls; a supply conduit extending from an exterior air supply connector to an internal air supply opening within the channel; an air discharge opening within the channel; and an inflatable support disposed in the channel. The interior volume of the inflatable support may be fluidicly isolated from the channel.

Patient Weighing And Bed Exit Monitoring

US Patent:
20110302720, Dec 15, 2011
Filed:
Jun 13, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/158725
Inventors:
Bradley Yakam - New Albany OH, US
Andrew Schwirian - Pittsburgh PA, US
Jay Schwirian - Monongahela PA, US
Tushar Shah - Newtown Square PA, US
Assignee:
AMERICAN HOME HEALTH CARE, INC. - Westerville OH
International Classification:
A47C 27/10
G01G 19/44
G01G 19/52
G08B 23/00
US Classification:
5710, 3405734, 177 1, 177144
Abstract:
Patient support systems are generally disclosed. An example patient support system may be configured to provide a predictive bed-exit alarm and/or a patient weight. An example embodiment may include a support structure including independently inflatable supports, an inflatable mat beneath the inflatable supports, and pressure detectors associated with the inflatable supports and the inflatable mat. An alarm logic may be configured to initiate a predictive bed-exit alarm sequence upon determining that at least one of the pressures of the inflatable supports is at about its respective unloaded pressure. A patient weight logic may be configured to output a patient weight based at least partially upon a difference between an unloaded pressure and a loaded pressure of the inflatable mat.

Dry Air Patient Support System And Method

View page
US Patent:
20130067661, Mar 21, 2013
Filed:
Mar 12, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/417449
Inventors:
Jay Schwirian - Monongahela PA, US
Bradley Yakam - New Albany OH, US
Andrew Schwirian - Pittsburgh PA, US
Assignee:
AMERICAN HOME HEALTH CARE, INC. - Westerville OH
International Classification:
A61G 7/05
B01D 53/04
US Classification:
5600, 96118
Abstract:
A patient support system and related method are provided to remove moisture away from a patient and into an interior of a patient support surface. Dry air is circulated through the interior of the support surface to draw away the moisture. Air movers and air dryers are used to circulate and recondition the air in a closed flow path through the patient support surface and back into the air movers and dryers. Alternatively, environmental air may be dried and propelled by the air movers and dryers through the interior of the support surface and discharged back into the environment.

Inventors:
- Columbus OH, US
Bradley Yakam - New Albany OH, US
Assignee:
Shakam LLC - Columbus OH
International Classification:
A61F 13/42
G06K 19/07
Abstract:
A system for remotely monitoring the status of wetness of a diaper worn by a patient using a reusable electronic vapor sensor.

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Dressing And Drainage Apparatus And System

View page
US Patent:
20160121032, May 5, 2016
Filed:
Oct 29, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/926388
Inventors:
- Columbus OH, US
Bradley Yakam - New Albany OH, US
Assignee:
Shakam LLC - Columbus OH
International Classification:
A61M 1/00
A61F 13/02
Abstract:
A negative pressure wound therapy dressing and drainage apparatus includes: () a semi-permeable cover sheet adapted to cover a patient's wound; () a porous dressing adapted to be positioned between the semi-permeable cover sheet and the patient's wound; and () a drainage connection configured to be attached to the semi-permeable cover sheet including (a) a novel suction port in fluid communication with the porous dressing positioned within the interior of the semi-permeable cover sheet when attached to the semi-permeable cover sheet, and (b) tubing coupled to the suction port at one end and adapted to be connected to a suction source at an opposing end. The novel suction port includes a suction port inlet adapted to be secured to the semi-permeable cover sheet, a suction port outlet secured to the tubing and oriented generally perpendicular to the suction port inlet and a conduit extending between the suction port inlet and suction port outlet, where the inner surface of the conduit has smooth transition from the suction port inlet to the suction port outlet.

Therapy Control For Patient Support System

View page
US Patent:
20150013073, Jan 15, 2015
Filed:
Sep 29, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/499371
Inventors:
- Westerville OH, US
Bradley Yakam - New Albany OH, US
Assignee:
AMERICAN HOME HEALTH CARE, INC. - Westerville OH
International Classification:
A61G 7/057
G01G 19/44
A47C 27/08
US Classification:
5706, 56553, 5654
Abstract:
Patient support systems and, more particularly, patient support systems designed to reduce the risk of developing pressure sores by a patient are disclosed. A control unit is provided that operates a pump for setting and maintaining the inflation of the patient support system. The control unit is configured to receive a weight of a patient (either automatically from an integrated weighing device or as input by a caregiver) using the patient support system. The control unit then operates the pump to fill and maintain the patient support system to a predetermined pressure based upon an electronically stored pressure versus weight model accessible to the control unit, where the pressure versus weight model is set to avoid bottom-out and overpressure conditions for the patient having the weight.
