Torque Multiplying Torque Wrench

View page
US Patent:
45494380, Oct 29, 1985
Filed:
Jul 25, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/516777
Inventors:
Bosko Grabovac - Arcadia CA
Ivan Vuceta - Walnut CA
Assignee:
Consolidated Devices, Inc. - City of Industry CA
International Classification:
B25B 23142
US Classification:
7386221
Abstract:
A torque wrench structure comprising a reduction gear train within a case. The gear train includes an input shaft with an end accessible at the exterior of the case and an output shaft, a work engaging part at the exterior of the case concentric with the output shaft and coupling structure drivingly coupling the work engaging part with the output shaft. A reaction part with a body portion having a central opening freely accommodating said coupling structure is positioned adjacent the case. A plurality of circumferentially and radially spaced locking pins project from the body and engage in lock pin receiving structure in a part to be worked upon by the wrench. A plurality of circumferentially spaced elongate deflection beams project from the body and engaging stops on the case. Strain gauges are fixed to the deflection beams between the stops and the body. A bridge circuit with a digital readout is connected with the strain gauges to compare the resistance of said gauges and to display digits corresponding to the forces transmitted by the wrench through said work engaging part.

44857039, Dec 4, 1984
Filed:
May 20, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/497060
Inventors:
Bosko Grabovac - Arcadia CA
Ivan Vuceta - Walnut CA
Assignee:
Consolidated Devices, Inc. - City of Industry CA
International Classification:
B23B 2314
US Classification:
81483
Abstract:
A torque wrench comprising an elongate, straight tubular lever with open front and rear ends, a work-engaging head at the front end of the lever and having a lever arm projecting into and pivotally connected with the front end portion of the lever, an elongate crank projecting freely rearwardly into the lever, an elongate axially biased compression spring extending longitudinally in the lever rearward of the crank, cam means between the spring and the crank normally releasably holding the crank concentric in the lever and operating to allow the crank to pivot and strike a side of the lever when a predetermined set operating force is exerted between the head and the lever through and about the axis of the lever arm. The wrench next includes adjusting means to vary the bias on said spring to adjust the operating force. Said means includes a plug set in the lever rearward of the spring, an elongate screw is engaged through the plug.

Appl. No.:
8/743833
Inventors:
Bosko Grabovac - Arcadia CA
Assignee:
Consolidated Devices, Inc. - City of Industry CA
International Classification:
G01L 2500
US Classification:
73 112
Abstract:
A torque tool tester machine that includes a reaction means to hold a torque tool to be tested, an electronic torque transducer in rotary driving engagement with a torque transmitting part of the torque tool and a reduction gear train including a manually rotatable input shaft, an output shaft in rotary driving engagement with the transducer, and intermediate shaft and a pair of spur gear wheel with meshed gear teeth on the input and intermediate shafts, a stop plate, an electrically driven operating mechanism to move the stop plate into and out of interfering stopped engagement between advancing and next to meshed gear teeth on the spur gear wheels, an electronic processor connected between the transducer and the operating mechanism and operating to cause the operating mechanism to move the plate into interfering stopped engagement between teeth on the spur gear wheels when a voltage received by it from the transducer is of a predetermined value.

Zlatko Kurtovic - Walnut CA
Assignee:
Consolidated Devices Inc. - City of Industry CA
International Classification:
G01G 314
G01G 2128
G01L 122
US Classification:
177211
Abstract:
A weighing scales structure comprising an elongate unitary tension rod having an elongate reaction end portion with inner and outer ends and a force-transmitting coupling part at its outer end, an elongate working end portion with inner and outer ends and a force-transmitting coupling part at its outer end, a central elongate elastic portion extending between and integrally joined with the inner end portions of the reaction and working portions; and, a plurality of strain gauges fixed to the elastic portion. The scales next include an elongate housing freely engaged about the central elastic portion and the inner end of the working end portion and releasably clampingly engaged with and about the inner end portion of the reaction portion. A circuit board and a battery power supply are mounted within the housing. The circuit board carries a bridge circuit in which the strain gauges are connected and a light emitting digital readout device which is visible through a window in the housing.
