Device And Method For Monitoring Hydration Status

View page
US Patent:
7493232, Feb 17, 2009
Filed:
Aug 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/846414
Inventors:
Blake J. Surina - Fircrest WA, US
International Classification:
G01C 22/00
G06F 15/00
G06F 19/00
G01K 13/00
A61B 5/00
US Classification:
702160, 702 19, 702127, 702131, 600307
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device and method that provide an individualized guideline for fluid replacement during normal activity or inactivity. Preferred embodiments calculate the user's fluid loss using the equation: {[(% humidity−1600)*time]/J}+[(temp F. *total caloric expenditure)/K], wherein when time units are in percent of an hour, J is a value selected from 1250-1290 and K is a value selected from 1610-1650. Preferred embodiments of the claimed device measure loss of fluid through the use of a pedometer and include a housing having a keyboard and a display screen, an ambient temperature sensor, an ambient humidity sensor, a step counting apparatus, a timing apparatus and a microprocessor. A fluid replacement value is communicated via a numerical display, graphic display, or both, on the display screen.

US Patent:
20060090765, May 4, 2006
Filed:
Oct 29, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/978026
Inventors:
Blake Surina - Fircrest WA, US
International Classification:
A61B 19/00
A61B 5/02
A61B 5/08
US Classification:
128898000, 600531000, 600481000
Abstract:
A method is provided for correcting reference parameters based on weight variations of a subject. The parameters that can be corrected may be metabolic rate, metabolic equivalent (MET), dehydration rate, drug dosage, exercise intensity, calorie usage, work level, and oxygen consumption. A corrected parameter for a subject can be determined by the factor to obtain a corrected parameter (P). In the factor, wtis the weight of the subject, x is preferably ⅓, Pis the reference parameter to be corrected, and y is preferably (wt), wherein wtis the reference weight and z is preferably ⅓.
