Simulated Altitude Method And Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
20070221225, Sep 27, 2007
Filed:
Jan 24, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/626770
Inventors:
Larry Kutt - Boulder CO, US
Shaun Wallace - Cardiff CA, US
William Reid - Longmont CO, US
Bennett Scharf - Boulder CO, US
Frank Caruso - Golden CO, US
Tom Damian - Boulder CO, US
Doug Ogden - Lyons CO, US
International Classification:
A61G 10/00
A61M 16/00
A62B 31/00
US Classification:
128205260, 128202120, 128204230
Abstract:
An altitude simulation system is disclosed for simulating an altitude within an enclosure or mask, wherein various improvements are provided, including: (a) a more effective use hypoxpic air generated by the system via recirculating techniques and improvements in air leakage, (b) improvements in determining when a simulated altitude is reached, (c) improvements in controlling hypoxic air generators so that peak electrical power loads are reduced and there are enhanced failsafe features for protecting the health of users, (d) using a pulse oximetry device for measuring oxygen saturation in a user's blood to thereby vary the oxygen content in the air provided to the user.

Synchronous Light Detection Utilizing Cmos/Ccd Sensors For Oximetry Sensing

View page
US Patent:
20090326347, Dec 31, 2009
Filed:
Jun 30, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/165148
Inventors:
Bennett Scharf - Boulder CO, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/00
US Classification:
600323
Abstract:
This disclosure describes a system and method for measuring a physiological parameter, such as a SpOmeasurement, generated by a monitoring device having a plurality of sensors. Embodiment described herein disclose a monitoring device, such as a pulse oximeter having an array of sensor elements and an oxygen saturation module configured to calculate an estimated value of oxygen saturation of a patient's blood. This calculation is based on information received from the array of sensor elements.

Failsafe Apparatus And Method For Effecting Syringe Drive

View page
US Patent:
49080172, Mar 13, 1990
Filed:
Jul 31, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/080566
Inventors:
David C. Howson - Denver CO
Michael W. Fellinger - Boulder CO
John A. Popken - Longmont CO
Richard M. Altobellis - Lyons CO
Bennett J. Scharf - Boulder CO
Walter E. Oshetski - Longmont CO
Assignee:
Ivion Corporation - Englewood CO
International Classification:
A61M 514
US Classification:
604 67
Abstract:
Failsafe apparatus and method are disclosed for controlling fluid flow from syringes. One or more syringes are positioned so that the piston of each syringe is caused to be precisely displaced to thereby safely deliver medicament from the syringe to a patient. To effect movement of each piston, a rack is provided, either as a part of the piston or secured thereto, and longitudinal movement of each rack is effected by rotating an associated pinion gear that is connected with a pulse-driven, stepper motor utilized in a power-efficient electromechanical configuration, with the operation of the stepper motor being accomplished through dual-redundant state machines controlled by a pre-programmed memory unit, and with the apparatus being repeatedly subjected to a plurality of error checks and data integrity verifications to assure continued proper operation.
