US Patent:
8646552, Feb 11, 2014
Filed:
Jul 20, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/186949
Inventors:
Darin Evans - Spring Lake MI, US
Dan Ralston - Walker MI, US
Benjamin R. Zabik - Ann Arbor MI, US
Assignee:
Shape Corp. - Grand Haven MI
International Classification:
B60K 11/08
US Classification:
180 681
Abstract:
An integrated assembly includes a bumper energy absorber section with crush lobes for abutting a bumper beam, an upper air shutter section with subassembled shutter members movable between closed and open positions, a first actuator mechanism for moving the shutter members between positions, an upper fascia support section with upper leg crush lobe therein above the upper air shutter section, a lower air shutter section with subassembled lower shutter members movable between closed and open positions, a second actuator mechanism for moving the lower shutter members between the positions; and a lower leg energy absorber section attached below the lower air shutter section and configured to abut (or replace) a face of a secondary pedestrian impact bar. The shutter members may be molded to a shutter frame using over molding technology rather than separately, manually assembled.

US Patent:
20040135384, Jul 15, 2004
Filed:
Dec 9, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/731293
Inventors:
Christopher Pritchard - Farmington Hills MI, US
Benjamin Zabik - Ann Arbor MI, US
Assignee:
Meridian Automotive Systems, Inc.
International Classification:
B60R019/56
US Classification:
293/120000
Abstract:
A bumper assembly and a process of fabricating the assembly that is designed to increase kinetic energy absorption and reduce deflection during a vehicular impact event. The bumper assembly comprising a vehicular bumper beam, a pair of mounting brackets that attach the bumper beam to a vehicular frame, and a fascia that partially encloses the bumper beam. The vehicular bumper is a structural cross member with two or more beads on an impact face of the bumper beam.

US Patent:
20080048462, Feb 28, 2008
Filed:
Aug 2, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/882606
Inventors:
Benjamin Roger Zabik - Ann Arbor MI, US
International Classification:
B60R 19/03
US Classification:
293120000
Abstract:
A bumper beam for a vehicle includes an outer skin formed of a polymeric material and a core provided within the outer skin. At least a portion of the core comprises an expanded material. The bumper beam is configured for coupling to a vehicle and the outer skin and core are configured to resist deformation in a vehicle collision.

US Patent:
20130076076, Mar 28, 2013
Filed:
Sep 18, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/621943
Inventors:
Matthew R. Partsch - Livonia MI, US
Benjamin Roger Zabik - Palo Alto CA, US
Assignee:
TESLA MOTORS, INC. - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
B62D 25/12
F16J 15/06
US Classification:
29619311
Abstract:
A seal assembly for use with the front trunk, motor or engine compartment of an automobile is provided, the seal assembly including a sealing flange, a sealing member attached to an end portion of the sealing flange, and a hood assembly that includes an upper panel and an inner surface comprised of a sealing surface. The sealing surface of the hood assembly is configured to form a seal with the sealing member when the hood assembly is in a closed position. The sealing surface of the hood assembly is spaced apart from the end portion of the sealing flange, thereby allowing the sealing surface to pass by the end portion of the sealing flange when a downward force, such as that experienced during a head-on collision with a pedestrian, is applied to the hood causing the hood assembly to be downwardly displaced past the closed position.
