Abstract:
A user's remote wireless device is used to send messages to targeted destinations within the user's home environment via an in-home network. The remote wireless device presents a user-friendly menu that enables the user to select the format of the messages (e.g., audio, text and/or graphics). The messages may be set to be sent at a particular time (reminder messages) or sent immediately (intercom messages). An application program running on the remote wireless device emulates on a display of the remote wireless device a plurality of control buttons used to select the destination, format and time, and to control the selection of program channels displayed on a television.

Abstract:
An auxiliary display device, capable of remotely controlling a set-top box (STB) and/or television to select a program channel, is used to navigate a web browser in the auxiliary display device to a web site associated with the selected channel. A web page associated with the selected channel is presented on a display of the auxiliary display device. When the channel is selected, current tuned channel information is transmitted by the set-top box (STB) and/or television to the auxiliary display device, irrespective of whether the auxiliary display device was used to select the channel. In an alternate embodiment, the STB and/or television forward channel information to the auxiliary display device via a cable head-end.

Abstract:
An auxiliary display device is used in conjunction with a cable television (CATV) system to process television content metadata extracted from a transport stream received by a set-top box (STB) and sent to the auxiliary display device. Text and/or images defined by the metadata are presented on a display of the auxiliary display device adjacent to a predefined image (e.g., an advertisement, supplemental data) retrieved from a memory of the auxiliary display device. The predefined image is presented in an area of the display of the auxiliary display device that is designated by the metadata as being reserved for displaying a broadcast television channel video image. The predefined image can be changed on a periodic basis, or in response to the auxiliary display device receiving new metadata from the STB.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for navigating an image viewed on a display screen. The image is controlled by a processor that receives navigational commands selected on a touchscreen of an auxiliary display device. The touchscreen is partitioned into a plurality of navigational control areas. Each navigational control area is associated with a different navigational command. When one of the navigational control areas of the touchscreen is selected, the navigational command associated with the selected navigational control area is transmitted to the processor. The processor receives and executes the transmitted navigational command to navigate the image. The boundaries of the control areas are normally hidden from view, but can be revealed on the touchscreen in response to a user input.

Described herein are methods and systems operable to detect the presence of clients and communicate their location updates in separate gateway devices, wherein the clients and their functions are physically or logically separated from the gateway functions in the premise gateways, yet state changes in the clients are recognized in the premise gateways. In one embodiment, there is provided a method for detecting and communicating a presence status of a device to provide multiple services to the at least one device, comprising: detecting a first state change of the device at a location, the detecting is external to the device; detecting a first presence status of the device at the location based on the detected first state change; and communicating the detected first presence status of the device to provide the device with first one of the multiple services that is associated with the detected first presence status at the location.

There is a performing of digital rights management (DRM), operable in an offline mode with respect to a communications network. The performing includes identifying a stored rights object associated with a stored asset. The stored rights object includes reporting duration information associated with the stored asset.
