Filed:
Dec 12, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/317447
Inventors:
Atiya Suhail - Richardson TX, US
Kashipati G. Rao - Plano TX, US
Thierry Labbe - Claman, FR
Assignee:
Alcatel - Paris
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
4554351, 455410, 455411, 370352
Abstract:
A voice over IP (VOIP) network includes a graphical proxy server that allows “dumb” terminals () to act as SIP phones or H. 323 phones; only the graphical proxy server () needs to support the underlying signaling protocol. The graphical proxy server () includes a graphical server () and a terminal management system (). The terminal management system () handles the calls for each associated graphical terminal () and interacts with the graphical server () to provide a customized GUI for each graphical terminal () to display current call status. Each terminal () has a respective instance of a terminal controller program () in the terminal management system (). The terminal controller for a terminal () controls the terminal's GUI responsive to incoming SIP messages directed to the terminal and generates SIP messages responsive to user interaction with the terminal's GUI.

System And Method For Provisioning Presence Application Services

View page
US Patent:
7376670, May 20, 2008
Filed:
Feb 20, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/783856
Inventors:
Sig Badt, Jr. - Richardson TX, US
Atiya Suhail - Plano TX, US
Assignee:
Alcatel-Lucent - Paris
International Classification:
G06F 17/00
G06F 9/44
US Classification:
7071041, 707101, 707102, 717104, 717120
Abstract:
A system and method for provisioning presence application services using a customizable presence data model. An ontology depository having at least one domain-specific ontology model for a particular presence application is provided on a communications network. Presence client software associated with a general-purpose presence entity is customized by referencing a domain-specific ontology model of the ontology depository, whereby the presence entity becomes operable to engage in a particular presence application relating to the domain-specific ontology model.

System And Method For Monitoring End Nodes Using Ethernet Connectivity Fault Management (Cfm) In An Access Network

View page
US Patent:
7688742, Mar 30, 2010
Filed:
Dec 22, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/317296
Inventors:
Kamakshi Sridhar - Plano TX, US
Sven Ooghe - Ghent, BE
Maarten Petrus Joseph Vissers - Huizen, NL
Atiya Suhail - Plano TX, US
Assignee:
Alcatel Lucent - Paris
International Classification:
G01R 31/08
US Classification:
3702411, 370467
Abstract:
A system and method for monitoring end nodes using Ethernet Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) in an access network. In one embodiment, a broadband access server (BRAS) is operable to generate an Ethernet CFM frame that includes a query message with respect to a particular end node. An interworking function (IWF) entity associated with an access node that services the particular end node is operable to interpret the Ethernet CFM frame and construct a corresponding query message in a native protocol compatible with the particular end node. Upon receiving a reply message from the particular end node, the IWF entity constructs a suitable reply Ethernet CFM frame for transmission to the BRAS, wherein the reply Ethernet CFM frame includes a response corresponding to the reply message from the end node.

Scalable Selective Alarm Suppression For Data Communication Network

View page
US Patent:
7697440, Apr 13, 2010
Filed:
Apr 28, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/380825
Inventors:
David Elie-Dit-Cosaque - Richardson TX, US
Atiya Suhail - Plano TX, US
Oscar Rodriguez - Madrid, ES
Kamakshi Sridhar - Plano TX, US
Assignee:
Alcatel Lucent - Paris
International Classification:
H04L 12/26
US Classification:
370241, 370252
Abstract:
Scalable selective alarm suppression is achieved through a new class of management packet, such as a new class of Ethernet management frame, adapted to convey a reachability relationship between a lower level maintenance point and a single higher level maintenance point, and more particularly adapted to convey to a first higher level maintenance point that receives the packet an identity of a single second higher level maintenance point that will become unreachable to the first higher level maintenance point in the event of a loss of continuity involving the lower level maintenance point. Once the first higher level maintenance point has learned a totality of operative reachability relationships through receipt of such packets and is notified of a loss of continuity involving the lower level maintenance point, the first higher level maintenance point can reference the learned reachability relationships and readily determine under what circumstances it should suppress an alarm in response to a detected loss of continuity with a higher level maintenance point.

Parameter Dependent Ring Tones

View page
US Patent:
7720213, May 18, 2010
Filed:
Dec 30, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/026441
Inventors:
Snehal Desai - Plano TX, US
Atiya Suhail - Plano TX, US
Kashipati G. Rao - Plano TX, US
Assignee:
Alcatel Lucent - Paris
International Classification:
H04M 3/42
US Classification:
37920716, 455566
Abstract:
A phone () identifies the nature of a desired communication by receiving data related to a purpose of the communication from parsers () and comparing the data to predetermined criteria specified by filters (). A ring tone is selected from a set of ring tone responsive to the comparison. The ring tone could provide either audio or tactile stimulation, or both. Tactile stimulation could be provided, for example through different vibration patterns. Alternatively, a graphic may be shown responsive to the comparison.
