Unidirectional Resource And Type Dependencies In Oracle Clusterware

View page
US Patent:
8583798, Nov 12, 2013
Filed:
Jan 15, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/688723
Inventors:
Andrey Gusev - Dublin CA, US
Ashwinee Khaladkar - Mountain View CA, US
Jonathan Creighton - Oakland CA, US
Raj K. Kammend - Colleyville TX, US
Assignee:
Oracle International Corporation - Redwood Shores CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
709226, 709223, 709224, 718104, 718105
Abstract:
A clusterware manager configures a resource according to resource attributes values specified by a resource profile. The resource profile conforms to a resource profile syntax that the clusterware manager is configured to interpret pursuant to clusterware manager software. The resource profile syntax prescribes a start dependency syntax defining a dependency between a first resource and a second resource in which the second resource must be in an online state before the first resource is started. The resource profile syntax further prescribes a stop dependency syntax defining a dependency between a first resource and a second resource in which the first resource is brought in an off-line state when the second resource leaves an online state.

Dynamic Resource Profiles For Clusterware-Managed Resources

View page
US Patent:
8209417, Jun 26, 2012
Filed:
Mar 8, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/716244
Inventors:
Sarat B. Kakarla - Santa Clara CA, US
Gaurav Kumar - Palo Alto CA, US
Ashwinee B. Khaladkar - Mountain View CA, US
Alok K. Srivastava - Newark CA, US
Juan Tellez - Piedmont CA, US
Assignee:
Oracle International Corporation - Redwood Shores CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
G06F 11/00
US Classification:
709226, 714 13
Abstract:
Allowing for resource attributes that may change dynamically while the resource is in use, provides for dynamic changes to the manner in which such resources are managed. Management of dynamic resource attributes by clusterware involves new entry points to clusterware agent modules, through which resource-specific user-specified instructions for discovering new values for resource attributes, and for performing a user-specified action in response to the new attribute values, are invoked. A clusterware policy manager may know ahead of time that a particular resource has dynamic attributes or may be notified when a resource's dynamic attribute has changed and, periodically or in response to the notification, request that the agent invoke the particular resource-specific instructions for discovering new values for attributes for the particular resource and/or for performing a user-specified action in response to the new attribute values. During the majority of this process, the resource remains available.

"Local Resource" Type As A Way To Automate Management Of Infrastructure Resources In Oracle Clusterware

View page
US Patent:
20110179170, Jul 21, 2011
Filed:
Jan 15, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/688715
Inventors:
Andrey Gusev - Dublin CA, US
Ashwinee Khaladkar - Mountain View CA, US
Jonathan Creighton - Oakland CA, US
Raj K. Kammend - Colleyville TX, US
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
709226
Abstract:
A method and computer-readable storage representing resources in a cluster by a plurality of attribute-value pairs that together are part of a “resource profile,” in which each attribute-value pair defines all, or a portion of, a management policy that applies to the resource. Included is a built-in resource type called a “Local Resource” type. Local resources that are attached to the server are instantiated with a combination of the resource profile and values of the Local Resource type.
