Safety-Arming System For Launched Projectiles

View page
US Patent:
49534750, Sep 4, 1990
Filed:
Dec 7, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/447329
Inventors:
Arnold S. Munach - Rockville MD
John Q. Nguyen - Silver Spring MD
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
F42B 1532
US Classification:
102229
Abstract:
Arming of a detonator carried within a tube-launched projectile is delayed n accordance with an operational program of a safety-arming system initiated by simultaneous and independent detection of projectile propulsion involving pressure generated by an activated projectile propelling motor and inertial forces accompanying acceleration of the projectile during launch. Operating energy necessary to complete the operational program, terminated after the projectile is launched, is stored within the projectile during launch in response to said generation of pressure by the activated propelling motor.

US Patent:
H2810, Jun 2, 1987
Filed:
Oct 24, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/922660
Inventors:
Arnold S. Munach - Rockville MD
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
F42C 1500
US Classification:
102254
Abstract:
There is disclosed a safe and arming device for ordnance fuzes including an nterrupter. The interrupter includes a cylindrical body adapted for rotational or axial movement in a housing when subjected to acceleration or other mechanical force in a bomb, missile, or other projectile for which designed. The cylindrical body is provided with a plurality of radially extending orthogonal openings containing detonators, whereby, upon movement of the cylindrical body, the detonators are brought into facing explosive communication with explosive leads for arming the fuze.

US Patent:
51479753, Sep 15, 1992
Filed:
Apr 20, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/255909
Inventors:
Arnold S. Munach - Rockville MD
Alvin J. Auerbach - Silver Spring MD
Assignee:
The United State of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
F42C 1540
US Classification:
102264
Abstract:
A single ordnance fuze comprising electronic means to initiate three separate detonation outputs. The first detonation output being used for round parachute deployment and fuze probe cover release. Simultaneously a mechanical timer is started which delays deployment of a six (6) foot stand-off probe until the parachute has slowed the round almost to its terminal speed. The second detonation is initiated by depression and closure of a switch in the tip of the probe. This detonation initiates deployment a pair of detonators from the round that serve to ignite fuel that is later distributed to a prearranged site by a third explosive charge. An automatic electronic timer of short duration is also initiated by the closure of the probe switch. The third detonation is initiated by the automatic timer. The third detonation initiates a burster charge for fuel dissemination, thus completing all three of the fuze explosive functions.
