Abstract:
The invention relates to a human MCP-1 derivative, and pharmaceutical compositions thereof, wherein human MCP-1 has been modified such that the protein inhibits monocyte chemoattractant activity. Successful inhibition of the activity is found where the MCP-1 is modified in one or more of the following: a) the 28-tyrosine is substituted by aspartate, b) the 24-arginine is substituted by phenylalanine, c) the 3-aspartate is substituted by alanine, and/or d) the 2-8 amino acid sequence is deleted. The claimed MCP-1 derivatives can be administered to a patient in need of inhibiting MCP-1 monocyte chemoattractant activity. For example, the derivatives can be used to prevent restenosis, such as that which is common in a patient undergoing coronary artery angioplasty. The invention further relates to compositions and methods of inhibiting monocyte chemoattractant activity of MCP-1 employing the derivatives described.

A computer that determines at least an anatomic feature associated with an aortic valve is described. During operation, the computer generates a 3D image associated with an individual's heart. This 3D image may present a view along a perpendicular direction to a 2D plane in which bases of a noncoronary cusp, a right coronary cusp and a left coronary cusp reside. Then, the computer may receive information specifying a set of reference locations that are associated with an aortic-root structure. Next, the computer automatically determines, based, at least in part, on the set of reference locations, at least the anatomical feature, which is associated with an aortic valve of the individual and a size of an aortic-valve device used in a transcatheter aortic-valve replacement (TAVR) procedure.

Abstract:
A computer that determines at least an anatomic feature of a left atrial appendage (LAA) is described. During operation, the computer generates a 3D image associated with an individual's heart. This 3D image may present a view along a perpendicular direction to an opening of the LAA. Then, the computer may receive information specifying a set of reference locations. Abstract:
A bioreactor and methods for use can include a microfibrous scaffold, that can be made of a composite bioink, and that can have endothelial cells directly embedded within the scaffold using an additive manufacturing process. The scaffold can further be seeded with cardiomyocytes. The hydrogel scaffold can be composed of a plurality of serpentine layers, with each serpentine layers, which can be placed on each other in a cross-hatch configuration, so that the primary axes of successive layers are perpendicular. This configuration can establish an aspect ratio for the scaffold, which can be selectively varied. For greater strength, the successive layers that have a primary axis in the same direction can be placed in the scaffold so that they are slight offset from each other. The scaffold can be placed in the bioreactor with perfusion, for use in cardiovascular drug screening and other nanomedicine endeavors.

A computer-implemented method for training a neural network that is configured to generate a score distribution over a set of multiple output positions. Abstract:
A speech recognition neural network system includes an encoder neural network and a decoder neural network. The encoder neural network generates an encoded sequence from an input acoustic sequence that represents an utterance. The input acoustic sequence includes a respective acoustic feature representation at each of a plurality of input time steps, the encoded sequence includes a respective encoded representation at each of a plurality of time reduced time steps, and the number of time reduced time steps is less than the number of input time steps. The encoder neural network includes a time reduction subnetwork, a convolutional LSTM subnetwork, and a network in network subnetwork. The decoder neural network receives the encoded sequence and processes the encoded sequence to generate, for each position in an output sequence order, a set of substring scores that includes a respective substring score for each substring in a set of substrings.
