A dental floss device comprises an elongated handle with a U-shaped flossing head projecting from one end of the handle. A strand of dental floss originated from a supply spool containing pre-wound fresh floss passes through the flossing head and emerges back to a take-up spool for containing spent floss. Dispensing floss and providing tension on the floss are controlled by the fingers of the holding hand on both supply spool and take-up spool which are rotatably mounted on the handle. The spools are also detachably mounted on the handle so that spent floss can be discarded and the take-up spool can be cleaned at will with ease and exhausted supply spools can easily be replaced with new, pre-wound spools like cartridges thus making the device reusable.

A monolithic gate driver circuit is used to drive the switching device, e. g. , a MOSgate transistor, which delivers the high voltage dc to the load output node via a charging inductor for controlled time periods. The control principle for controlling the on and off times of the transistor (with the monolithic gate driver circuit) relies on turning on the transistor for fixed time periods that are equal to the intrinsic delay of the gate driver circuit. In contrast, the off period of the switching device is varied to regulate and maintain the output voltage at a constant value, independent of the input dc bus voltage or of the output current.

A temperature-responsive hydrogel includes water, a poly(N-alkylacrylamide) copolymer of a first monomer and a second monomer that is different than the first monomer, and an adhesion-enhancing additive. One type of adhesion-enhancing additive is selected from the group consisting of Arg-Gly-Asp-Ser amino sequence (RGDS), 3-guanidinopropionic acid (GPA), manganese(II) chloride tetrahydrate, and combinations thereof. Characteristically, the temperature-responsive hydrogel has a failure pressure that is at least 2 times greater than a failure pressure for a base temperature-responsive hydrogel having the same composition without the adhesion-enhancing additive. Another type of adhesion-enhancing additive is selected from the family of plant polyphenols, and issued as a priming layer before deployment of the temperature-responsive hydrogel. It not only improves the adhesion of temperature-responsive polymer gels to biological tissues, but also reserves the thermal reversibility of the polymers.
