Inkjet-Printed Flexible Electronic Components From Graphene Oxide

View page
US Patent:
20120170171, Jul 5, 2012
Filed:
Nov 21, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/301124
Inventors:
Woo Young Lee - Ridgewood NJ, US
Linh Le - New York NY, US
De Kong - Hoboken NJ, US
Matthew Henderson Ervin - Clarksville MD, US
Brian E. Fuchs - Hackettstown NJ, US
International Classification:
H01G 9/155
H01G 9/145
H01G 9/15
H05K 1/00
US Classification:
361502, 174254, 361503, 361523
Abstract:
An electrical component includes an inkjet-printed graphene electrode. Graphene oxide flakes are deposited on a substrate in a graphene oxide ink using an inkjet printer. The deposited graphene oxide is thermally reduced to graphene. The electrical properties of the electrode are comparable to those of electrodes made using activated carbon, carbon nanotubes or graphene made by other methods. The electrical properties of the graphene electrodes may be tailored by adding nanoparticles of other materials to the ink to serve as conductivity enhancers, spacers, or to confer pseudocapacitance. Inkjet-printing can be used to make graphene electrodes of a desired thickness in preselected patterns. Inkjet printing can be used to make highly-transparent graphene electrodes. Inkjet-printed graphene electrodes may be used to fabricate double-layer capacitors that store energy by nanoscale charge separation at the electrode-electrolyte interface (i.e., “supercapacitors”).

Trick Play Advertising

US Patent:
20120243850, Sep 27, 2012
Filed:
Mar 21, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/052804
Inventors:
Arvind BASRA - Glen Ridge NJ, US
Woo Beum LEE - Basking Ridge NJ, US
Assignee:
VERIZON NEW JERSEY INC. - Newark NJ
International Classification:
H04N 9/80
US Classification:

Abstract:
A device receives trick play signals during a playing of content. The device determines a trick play being request based on the trick play signals. The device further estimates a length of an available time period based on the trick play and information regarding at least one other trick play. The at least one other trick play occurred prior to the trick play. The device also retrieves an advertisement for the available time period based on a length of the available time period. The advertisement is one of a plurality of advertisements of different lengths. The device displays the advertisement, on a display, during the available time period.

A microfluidic-based platform with cultured three-dimensional tissues simulates major human physiological systems for rapid evaluation of individual drugs prior to clinical testing or for personalized medical applications. The platform integrates the circulatory and lymphatic systems in a physiologically correct manner. The physiological systems may be simulated in the platform by microfluidic tissue culture devices which accommodate various tissues and provide integrated microvascular and lymphatic systems. Biomimetic nanofiber meshes or microfiber structures may be used to provide the cells with a physiologically relevant substrate. Each device may have an on-board detection system utilizing optical fiber bundles for microarray multiplexing of biomarkers, label-free SERS measurement of drugs, and microendoscopic confocal imaging of cells and tissues.

Abstract:
The described invention provides an ex vivo dynamic multiple myeloma (MM) cancer niche contained in a microfluidic device. The dynamic MM cancer niche includes (a) a three-dimensional tissue construct containing a dynamic ex vivo bone marrow (BM) niche, which contains a mineralized bone-like tissue containing viable osteoblasts self-organized into cohesive multiple cell layers and an extracellular matrix secreted by the viable adherent osteoblasts; and a microenvironment dynamically perfused by nutrients and dissolved gas molecules; and (b) human myeloma cells seeded from a biospecimen composition comprising mononuclear cells and the multiple myeloma cells. The human myeloma cells are in contact with osteoblasts of the BM niche, and the viability of the human myeloma cells is maintained by the MM cancer niche.

Granules Of Graphene Oxide By Spray Drying

View page
US Patent:
20140205841, Jul 24, 2014
Filed:
Jan 15, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/156070
Inventors:
Hongwei Qiu - Harrison NJ, US
Thomas A. Bechtold - Morristown NJ, US
Lihn Tung Le - New York NY, US
Woo Young Lee - Ridgewood NJ, US
International Classification:
C01B 31/04
US Classification:
428402, 264 13
Abstract:
Granules of graphene oxide may be produced from a dispersion of nanoscale graphene oxide sheets by a spray drying method. Such granules have a three-dimensional corrugated morphology. The complexity of the corrugations, and the size distribution of the granules can be varied through selection of the spray-drying equipment used, and variation of the composition of the dispersion and the spray-drying parameters. Structural modifiers may be included in the graphene oxide dispersion to control the ultimate morphology of the granules. The granules of graphene oxide may be thermally reduced at a moderate temperature of 220 C. to increase the granules' electrical conductivity. The reduced granules may be used to fabricate electrodes for supercapacitors. The power and energy density of such an electrode material is comparable to those of conventional/commercial activated carbon-based electrodes.
