Inventors:
Georgios Ginis - Stanford CA, US
Wei Yu - Stanford CA, US
Chaohuang Zeng - Palo Alto CA, US
John M. Cioffi - Atherton CA, US
Assignee:
The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
H04B 3/46
US Classification:
375224, 375225, 375285, 375346, 370201, 455295, 455296, 455501, 455 631
Abstract:
Methods, apparatus and systems for dynamically controlling a digital communication system, such as a DSL system, collect information about digital communication lines in the system and adaptively and/or dynamically determine line and signal characteristics of the digital communication lines, including interference effects. Based on the determined characteristics and the desired performance parameters, operation of the digital communication lines is adjusted to improve or otherwise control the performance of the system. The collection and processing of information may be performed by a party that is not a user in the system. This independent party also may control operational characteristics and parameters of the system. The invention can be used to eliminate or reduce signal interference such as crosstalk that can be induced on communication lines in systems such as DSL systems. Specific iterative power allocation and vectored transmission techniques and apparatus are disclosed.

Method And Apparatus For Automated Characterization Of Objects With Unknown Rf Characteristics

View page
US Patent:
7379829, May 27, 2008
Filed:
Feb 23, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/361911
Inventors:
Baris Dundar - San Pablo CA, US
Raymond Rui-Feng Liao - Pleasanton CA, US
Wei Yu - Albany CA, US
Jaimyoung Kwon - Alameda CA, US
Assignee:
Siemens Aktiengesellschaft - Munich
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
702 57, 702189, 455446, 4554221, 23546246
Abstract:
A method for generating radio frequency (RF) planning modeling data for an object. The method includes placing an RF signal source near the object and sequentially positioning a receiver at a plurality of locations around the object. At each of the locations, an indication is provided to the receiver that it is at a measurement location, and the receiver is allowed to detect a level of the RF signal produced by the RF signal source at the measurement location. In another aspect, an opening in an object is modeled as a virtual object that overlaps with the object and has a “negative attenuation” characteristic to cancel out the “positive attenuation” characteristic of the object.

Method For Detecting Cancer And Method For Suppressing Cancer

US Patent:
7867709, Jan 11, 2011
Filed:
Mar 21, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/723712
Inventors:
Wei Yu - Berkeley CA, US
Johji Inazawa - Tokyo, JP
Issei Imoto - Tokyo, JP
Assignee:
Fujifilm Corporation - Tokyo
Tokyo Medical and Dental University - Tokyo
International Classification:
C12Q 1/68
US Classification:
435 6
Abstract:
An object of the present invention is to provide a method for detecting cancer through identification of genes exhibiting characteristic behavior in the cases of cancer such as anaplastic thyroid cancer. The present invention provides a method for detecting cancer which comprises detecting canceration of a specimen using the amplification of a gene of the p12 region of chromosome 8 in the specimen as an indicator.

Supplementing A Trained Model Using Incremental Data In Making Item Recommendations

View page
US Patent:
8326777, Dec 4, 2012
Filed:
Jul 31, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/533632
Inventors:
Qiong Zhang - Sunnyvale CA, US
Wei Du - Burbank CA, US
Wei Yu - Davis CA, US
Biswadeep Nag - Fremont CA, US
Jessi Dong - Saratoga CA, US
Assignee:
Yahoo! Inc. - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/18
G06N 5/02
US Classification:
706 12
Abstract:
Incremental training data is used to supplement a trained model to provide personalized recommendations for a user. The personalized recommendations can be made by taking into account the user's behavior, such as, without limitation, the user's short and long term web page interactions, to identify item recommendations. A trained model is generated from training data indicative of the web page interaction data collected from a plurality of users. Incremental training data indicative of other web page interaction data can be used to supplement the trained model, or in place of the trained model. Incremental training data can be indicative of user behavior collected more recently than the data used to train the model, for example.

Method And System For Content Aware And Energy Efficient Transmission Of Videos And Images

View page
US Patent:
20050063314, Mar 24, 2005
Filed:
Sep 19, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/665606
Inventors:
Zafer Sahinoglu - Somerville MA, US
Wei Yu - Greenbelt MD, US
Anthony Vetro - Cambridge MA, US
International Classification:
H04L012/26
US Classification:
370252000, 370332000
Abstract:
A method selects source and channel codec parameters according to varying channel conditions and signal to noise ratio for a given distortion constraint. The processes of source and channel encoding and decoding with the selected parameter values and transmit power level per quality layer minimize a total energy consumption for delivery of multimedia content from a transmitting terminal to a receiving terminal. The total energy consumption is defined as the energy consumed while processing and transmitting the multimedia. Coding parameters, such as channel code rates, error resilience redundancy, unequal error protection level, and transmit power level can vary from layer to layer.

13/302522
Inventors:
Georgios Ginis - Stanford CA, US
Wei Yu - Stanford CA, US
Chaohuang Zeng - Palo Alto CA, US
John M. Cioffi - Atherton CA, US
International Classification:
H04B 15/00
US Classification:
375285
Abstract:
Control of a digital communication system having a plurality of communication lines on which signals are transmitted and received is implemented using a variety of methods and systems. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method is implemented where the signals are affected by interference during transmission and each of the communication lines has at least one transmitter and at least one receiver. A model is created of the interference characteristics due to the signals carried on the communication lines. Interference characteristics for a line are determined based on the model and actual signals carried on other communication lines different from the line for which the characteristics are being determined. Actual interference is compensated for on the communication line using the determined interference characteristics.
