Hydraulic Coupling

View page
US Patent:
6905142, Jun 14, 2005
Filed:
Sep 24, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/669734
Inventors:
Tai Do - Fountain Valley CA, US
Tung N. Le - Westminster CA, US
Luis F. Lozano - Garden Grove CA, US
Assignee:
Huck Patents, Inc. - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
F16L055/00
US Classification:
285 89, 285386, 285 92, 285322
Abstract:
An improved hydraulic coupling includes a fitting and a nut that are threadably connectable together. The fitting includes a generally annular groove having a lateral frusto-conic engagement surface. The nut includes a plurality of elongated fingers that each include a projection having an outwardly-disposed edge. When the coupling is assembled, the edges are frictionally engaged with the engagement surface as a result of the elastic deflection of the fingers. The frusto-conic shape of the engagement surface provides progressively greater frictional resistance in a direction of unthreading of the coupling, whereby loosening of the coupling during operation of the fluid circuit is resisted.

Shape Lockable Apparatus And Method For Advancing An Instrument Through Unsupported Anatomy

View page
US Patent:
7837615, Nov 23, 2010
Filed:
Apr 26, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/115947
Inventors:
Tung Thanh Le - Irvine CA, US
Vahid Saadat - Atherton CA, US
Elvia Muro - Mssion Viejo CA, US
Assignee:
USGI Medical, Inc. - San Clemente CA
International Classification:
A61B 1/00
A61B 1/04
US Classification:
600114, 600121, 600123
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are provided for placing and advancing a diagnostic or therapeutic instrument in a hollow body organ of a tortuous or unsupported anatomy, comprising a handle, an overtube disposed within a hydrophilic sheath or liner, and a distal region having an atraumatic tip. The sheath/liner may be disposable to permit reuse of the overtube. Loading devices may be provided for disposing the sheath/liner about the overtube. Tensioning mechanisms may be provided to selectively stiffen the overtube to reduce distension of the organ caused by advancement of the diagnostic or therapeutic instrument. The distal region permits passive steering of the overtube caused by deflection of the diagnostic or therapeutic instrument, while the atraumatic tip prevents the wall of the organ from becoming caught or pinched during manipulation of the diagnostic or therapeutic instrument.

Disposable Shapelocking System

View page
US Patent:
20060058582, Mar 16, 2006
Filed:
Sep 28, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/238298
Inventors:
Tracy Maahs - Rancho Santa Margarita CA, US
Vahid Saadat - Saratoga CA, US
Chris Rothe - San Jose CA, US
Tung Le - Tustin CA, US
Assignee:
USGI Medical Inc. - San Clemente CA
International Classification:
A61B 1/00
US Classification:
600144000, 600141000
Abstract:
Disposable shapelocking systems are disclosed herein. A shapelock assembly generally comprises an elongate body defining at least one lumen therethrough for advancement of an endoscope or other endoscopic instruments therethrough. A handle assembly can be actuated to compress nested links against one another to transition the elongate body from a flexible state to a rigid shape-locked state. One or more of the nested links can be made from a particular thermoplastic either alone or in combination with one or more reinforcing structures. Such structures can include a reinforcing ring integrated with the link on an inner, outer, or lower surface of the link. Alternatively, the link can be coated or layered to enhance its strength. Additionally, different portions of the shapelock body can be made from different types of links depending upon the loads imparted upon the various portions of the shapelock body.

Endoscopic System With Disposable Sheath

US Patent:
20080262294, Oct 23, 2008
Filed:
Apr 20, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/738297
Inventors:
Richard C. EWERS - Fullerton CA, US
Eugene CHEN - Carlsbad CA, US
Tung Thanh LE - Tustin CA, US
Robert A. VAUGHAN - Laguna Niguel CA, US
Marvin C. ELMER - Rancho Santa Margarita CA, US
John A. COX - San Clemente CA, US
Tracy D. MAAHS - Rancho Santa Margarita CA, US
Assignee:
USGI MEDICAL, INC. - San Clemente CA
International Classification:
A61B 1/005
US Classification:
600104
Abstract:
An endoscopic system includes a sheath having a flexible sheath body. A tip is attached to a distal end of the sheath body. A handle is attached to the proximal end of the sheath body. A steerable section may be provided in the sheath adjacent to the tip. Steering controls may then be provided on the handle for steering the steerable section. Lumens extend from the tip to the handle. The distal end of each lumen is sealed to the tip. Bodily fluids can only enter into the lumens and not other areas within the sheath. A shapelock assembly has an elongated hollow body positionable within the sheath body. The shapelock body may be switched between generally rigid and flexible conditions. The sheath provides a sterile barrier around the shapelock body. The shapelock assembly can be readily reused and the sheath may be disposable.
