Abstract:
An image compression apparatus for compressing image data provided to an input terminal and providing compressed data to an output terminal includes a 4Ã4 weighted digital cosine transformer (DCT) coupled to the input terminal and configured to convert the image data into weighted frequency data. A zigzag circuit is coupled to the DCT and configured to zigzag process the frequency data and generate create zigzag data. A Q-factor estimator is coupled to the DCT and configured to estimate the frequency data and generate a Q-factor. A DC coding circuit is coupled to the zigzag circuit and configured to code the zigzag data and generate a DC code. A quantization circuit is coupled to the zigzag circuit and the Q-factor estimator and configured to quantize the zigzag data based on the Q-factor and generate quantized data. A run-length coding circuit coupled to the DC coding circuit and the quantization circuit and configured to encode the quantized data to create variable length data as the compressed data to the output terminal. In this manner, the original image is compressed.

US Patent:
6614934, Sep 2, 2003
Filed:
Mar 27, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/536252
Inventors:
Tony H. Wu - Milpitas CA
Assignee:
Divio, Inc. - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G06K 936
US Classification:
382232
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for concatenating data words from a bitstream includes a scratch memory ( ) containing last words of unfinished blocks and left-aligned extra data words of finished blocks. A previous register ( ) holds one last word of an unfinished block. A next register ( ) holds a first of possibly many extra data words associated with the last word. A bit detector ( ), coupled to the previous register ( ) and the next register ( ), first concatenates the last word and the first extra data word and identifies selected bits for the detection of a valid code word. When no more valid code words can be found from the selected bits, and more data associated with the unfinished block exists, the first extra data word is moved to the previous register ( ) and a second extra data word is moved to the next register ( ). The first extra data word and the second extra data word are concatenated for the detection of another valid code word. In various embodiments of the present invention, a start bit register ( ) and a remaining bits register ( ) hold values that are used in concatenation and the detection of valid code words.

Programmable Phase Velocity In An Ultrasonic Imaging System

View page
US Patent:
20070083110, Apr 12, 2007
Filed:
Oct 9, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/246731
Inventors:
Tony Wu - San Jose CA, US
Phung Hue - Cupertino CA, US
International Classification:
A61B 8/00
US Classification:
600437000
Abstract:
An ultrasonic image scanning system for scanning an organic object includes a beam former that provides a phase velocity adjustment function for producing an ultrasonic image with a programmable phase velocity. The ultrasonic image scanning system further includes a beam profile analysis function for calculating an optimal phase velocity with a user controller to adjust the phase velocity until a scan image of best image quality is achieved. Alternately, the system may provide an automatic phase velocity-scanning controller for automatically scanning through a range of phase velocities and selecting a best phase velocity generating a scanning image of a best quality. The system further includes a region of interest (ROI) controller for a user to select a region for scanning with a specific focal area for optimizing the phase velocity. The system may further provide a maximum gradient analyzer for selecting an image of a best quality in optimizing the phase velocity. A digital controller may also provide a real time programmable control by applying different control algorithms with combination of phase velocity and attenuation adjustment. A hardness computational processor is implemented to determine a tissue hardness using the phase velocity and in combination with the attenuation parameter.
