Colloidal Spray Method For Low Cost Thin Coating Deposition

View page
US Patent:
6358567, Mar 19, 2002
Filed:
Apr 16, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/293446
Inventors:
Robert S. Glass - Livermore CA
Tae H. Lee - Naperville IL
Assignee:
The Regents of the University of California - Oakland CA
International Classification:
B05D 102
US Classification:
427421, 427316, 427318, 427319, 4273762, 4273763, 4273764, 427427
Abstract:
A dense or porous coating of material is deposited onto a substrate by forcing a colloidal suspension through an ultrasonic nebulizer and spraying a fine mist of particles in a carrier medium onto a sufficiently heated substrate. The spraying rate is essentially matched to the evaporation rate of the carrier liquid from the substrate to produce a coating that is uniformly distributed over the surface of the substrate. Following deposition to a sufficient coating thickness, a single sintering step may be used to produce a dense ceramic coating. Using this method, coatings ranging in thickness from about one to several hundred microns can be obtained. By using a plurality of compounds in the colloidal suspension, coatings of mixed composition can be obtained. By using a plurality of solutions and separate pumps and a single or multiple ultrasonic nebulizer(s), and varying the individual pumping rates and/or the concentrations of the solutions, a coating of mixed and discontinuously graded (e. g. , stepped) or continuously graded layers may be obtained.

Modified G Protein Sunbunits

View page
US Patent:
6448377, Sep 10, 2002
Filed:
Sep 27, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/672239
Inventors:
Brian Kobilka - Palo Alto CA
Tae Weon Lee - Palo Alto CA
Assignee:
The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
C07K 1700
US Classification:
530350, 435 71
Abstract:
The present invention provides modified G protein -subunits which are characterized by constitutive localization to the plasma membrane; enhanced binding to one or more of the normal receptor binding partners for that -subunit; and efficient binding to and activation of G protein binding partners. The distribution of these modified -subunits, which are âtetheredâ to the plasma membrane, allows the regulation of receptor-G protein coupling, and thus G-protein signaling, in various biological systems.

Federated Searches Of Heterogeneous Datastores Using A Federated Datastore Object

View page
US Patent:
6578046, Jun 10, 2003
Filed:
Jun 5, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/873220
Inventors:
Daniel T. Chang - San Jose CA
Siyi Terry Donn - Saratoga CA
Douglas Michael Hembry - Los Gatos CA
Tae Jae Lee - Cupertino CA
Basuki N. Soetarman - Los Gatos CA
Robert N. Summers - San Jose CA
Frank C. Tung - Saratoga CA
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
707103, 707100, 707 10, 707 4
Abstract:
A computer method and system capable of searching multiple heterogeneous datastores with heterogeneous data types by employing an object oriented data model to define a federated datastore object. The federated query object translates a generic query into the appropriate queries for each datastore, the federated datastore object acts as a virtual datastore for multiple heterogeneous datastores with the ability to map concepts between datastores, and the federated collection object represents results from a federated query in a hierarchy that maintains sub-grouping information from each datastore to allow accessing of results by datastore or as a single collection of results. The federated objects thus provide user applications with enhanced accessibility of different hierarchies of information, as well as more robust search capabilities.

Method And Apparatus For Programming A Memory Array

View page
US Patent:
7212454, May 1, 2007
Filed:
Jun 22, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/158396
Inventors:
Bendik Kleveland - Santa Clara CA, US
Tae Hee Lee - Saratoga CA, US
Seung Geon Yu - San Ramon CA, US
Chia Yang - San Jose CA, US
Feng Li - San Jose CA, US
Xiaoyu Yang - Campbell CA, US
Assignee:
SanDisk 3D LLC - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G11C 29/00
US Classification:
365200, 365175
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for programming a memory array are disclosed. In one embodiment, after each word line is programmed, an attempt is made to detect a defect on that word line. If a defect is detected, the word line is repaired with a redundant word line. The word lines are then reprogrammed and rechecked for defects. In another embodiment, after each word line is programmed, an attempt is made to detect a defect on that word line. If a defect is detected, that word line is repaired along with a previously-programmed adjacent word line. In yet another embodiment, after each word line is programmed, an attempt is made to detect a defect on that word line and a previously-programmed adjacent word line. If a defect is detected on that word line, that word line and the previously-programmed adjacent word line are repaired with redundant word lines.

Conformational Assays To Detect Binding To G Protein-Coupled Receptors

View page
US Patent:
20030129649, Jul 10, 2003
Filed:
Aug 21, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/935061
Inventors:
Brian Kobilka - Palo Alto CA, US
Pejman Ghanouni - Menlo Park CA, US
Tae Lee - Palo Alto CA, US
International Classification:
G01N033/53
G01N033/567
C12M001/34
US Classification:
435/007100, 435/007200, 435/287200
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and compositions for detection of compounds that have activity in modulating G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) activity, e.g., agonists, and antagonists. The detection method is based upon detection of a conformational change in a GPCR upon interaction with a ligand. Conformational change of the GPCR upon ligand interaction can be accomplished by modifying the GPCR to have a bound detectable label so that ligand interaction results in a conformational change in the GPCR that is detected by a change in detectable signal from the detectable label. Conformational change of the GPCR upon ligand interaction can also be detected by detecting a change in the accessibility of a protease cleavage site to protease cleavage, where the protease cleavage site is naturally-occurring in the GPCR or introduced into the GPCR. The conformational assays of the invention provide for high-throughput screening,

Conformational Assays To Detect Binding To Membrane Spanning, Signal-Transducing Proteins

View page
US Patent:
20040157268, Aug 12, 2004
Filed:
Oct 22, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/692071
Inventors:
Brian Kobilka - Palo Alto CA, US
Pejman Ghanouni - Menlo Park CA, US
Tae Lee - Palo Alto CA, US
International Classification:
G01N033/53
G01N033/567
US Classification:
435/007200
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and compositions for detection of compounds that have activity in modulating activity of membrane-spanning, signal-transducing (MSST) proteins, e.g., agonists, and antagonists. The detection method is based upon detection of a conformational change in a MSST protein upon interaction with a ligand. Conformational change of the MSST protein upon ligand interaction is accomplished by modifying the MSST protein to comprise a conformationally sensitive detectable probe, so that ligand interaction that results in a conformational change in the MSST protein is detected by a change in detectable signal from the detectable probe. The conformationally sensitive detectable probe can be a chemical label (e.g., a fluorophore) or moiety integral to the protein (e.g., a protease cleavage site, or immunodetectable moiety). The conformational assays of the invention provide for high-throughput screening.
