Abstract:
A system and a method are disclosed for enabling fast switching in a multimedia interface system having content protection. By using a partial port receiver to decode a portion of the input at input ports that are not being output to a multimedia sink, the design of the switching system is simplified and silicon costs are reduced. Additionally, the switching system and method reduces the switching delay by maintaining content protection signaling with all of the input ports. This eliminates the need for re-authentication when a new multimedia source is selected.

Abstract:
A system and method are disclosed is to prevent the screen tearing in a video display system with self-refresh features while limiting space used for memory size in the self-refreshing sink device. A flexible method is utilized to manage a frame buffer and control self-refresh display timing to prevent screen tearing. The sink device has capabilities including one or more of self-refreshing and applying single frame updates as well as burst single frame updates while self-refresh is active. The memory utilized by the frame buffer during self-refresh is limited to less than that needed to store two full frames of video.

A video input signal is received which has an active video period and a vertical blanking period between frames. A timing controller transmits a first video frame to a column driver. The timing controller transmits a column driver disable command during a vertical blanking period. Prior to the subsequent active video period, the timing controller transmits a column driver enable command. The timing controller proceeds to transmit a second video frame to the column driver. In one embodiment, the timing controller determines whether to disable and enable the column driver based on a refresh rate, the refresh rate calculated by the timing controller from the video input signal.
