Method And System Of Embedding A Boot Loader As System Firmware

View page
US Patent:
7765393, Jul 27, 2010
Filed:
Jul 11, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/484979
Inventors:
Min Eig Lee - Palo Alto CA, US
Chih-Yi Chen - San Jose CA, US
Huynh Duc Mai - Milpitas CA, US
Pradeep Kalra - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Network Appliance, Inc. - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G06F 9/00
US Classification:
713 2, 714 6
Abstract:
An IBM PC compatible processing system typically has a BIOS installed as system firmware. During a boot process of the processing system, the BIOS loads a boot loader from one of the boot media, i. e. , hard drives, floppy disks, CDs, USB flash memories, taps, etc. and passes control of the boot loader, the boot loader then loads an OS from the boot media. The present invention takes advantage of the higher reliability and availability provided by the system flash memory and stores a boot loader as system firmware in the system flash memory. Further, it provides changes in the BIOS boot process to load the boot loader from system memory, the ROM, for example, without relying on boot media. With this new process, the boot loader can be loaded even when the boot media is corrupt, defective or un-initialized.

G06G 7/58
US Classification:
506 4, 506 6, 506 9, 506 12, 435 71
Abstract:
The invention provides a method for identifying a ligand that binds to a macromolecular target. The methods involve (a) attaching an antenna moiety to a first ligand, wherein the ligand binds specifically to a macromolecular target; (b) providing a sample comprising the macromolecular target, the first ligand and a candidate second ligand under conditions wherein the first ligand and the macromolecular target form a bound complex; (c) detecting a subset of magnetization transfer signals between the antenna moiety of the first ligand and the second candidate ligand, wherein the signals are obtained from an isotope edited NOESY spectrum of the sample; thereby determining that the two ligands are proximal in a bound complex, and identifying a second ligand that binds to the macromolecular target.

G06F 15/173
US Classification:
718105, 718 1, 718103, 709223, 709224, 709226
Abstract:
The present disclosure is based on a multi-core or multi-processor virtualized environment that comprises both time-sensitive and non-time-sensitive tasks. The present disclosure describes techniques that use a plurality of criteria to choose a processing resource that is to execute tasks. The present disclosure further describes techniques to re-schedule queued tasks from one processing resource to another processing resource, based on a number of criteria. Through load balancing techniques, the present invention both (i) favors the processing of soft real-time tasks arising from media servers and applications, and (ii) prevents “starvation” of the non-real-time general computing applications that co-exist with the media applications in a virtualized environment. These techniques, in the aggregate, favor the processing of soft real-time tasks while also reserving resources for non-real-time tasks. These techniques manage multiple processing resources to balance the competing demands of soft real-time tasks and of non-real-time tasks.

Dynamic Techniques For Optimizing Soft Real-Time Task Performance In Virtual Machines

US Classification:
718104, 718 1, 718105, 709224, 709225, 709226
Abstract:
Methods are disclosed that dynamically improve soft real-time task performance in virtualized computing environments under the management of an enhanced hypervisor comprising a credit scheduler. The enhanced hypervisor analyzes the on-going performance of the domains of interest and of the virtualized data-processing system. Based on the performance metrics disclosed herein, some of the governing parameters of the credit scheduler are adjusted. Adjustments are typically performed cyclically, wherein the performance metrics of an execution cycle are analyzed and, if need be, adjustments are applied in a later execution cycle. In alternative embodiments, some of the analysis and tuning functions are in a separate application that resides outside the hypervisor. The performance metrics disclosed herein include: a “total-time” metric; a “timeslice” metric; a number of “latency” metrics; and a “count” metric. In contrast to prior art, the present invention enables on-going monitoring of a virtualized data-processing system accompanied by dynamic adjustments based on objective metrics.

Credit Scheduler For Ordering The Execution Of Tasks

Filed:
Jan 13, 2010
Appl. No.:

Avaya Inc. - Basking Ridge NJ
International Classification:
G06F 9/46
US Classification:
718103, 718104
Abstract:
A method for scheduling the execution of tasks on a processor is disclosed. The purpose of the method is in part to serve the special needs of soft real-time tasks, which are time-sensitive. A parameter Δ is an estimate of the amount of time required to execute the task. Another parameter Γ is the maximum amount of time that the task is to spend in a queue before being executed. In the illustrative embodiment, the preferred wait time Γfor a newly-arrived task Tis expected to be met though the insertion of the newly-arrived task Tinto a position k in a queue such that position k respects the task's preferred wait time Γin light of the expected execution times of the other tasks already in the queue.

High Concentration Formulations Of Opioids And Opioid Derivatives

View page
US Patent:
20040102476, May 27, 2004
Filed:
Nov 25, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/305252
Inventors:
Tai Chan - Palo Alto CA, US
Wilma Tamraz - San Jose CA, US
Min Lee - Saratoga CA, US
International Classification:
A61K031/445
A61K031/19
US Classification:
514/317000, 514/557000
Abstract:
The present invention provides opioid formulations suitable for long-term delivery to a subject. The formulation of the invention comprises an opioid or opioid derivative (e.g., morphine, hydromorphone, fentanyl or a fentanyl congener), and an aqueous solvent comprising a low molecular weight carboxylic acid (e.g., C, C). The invention thus provides for formulations comprising morphine, hydromorphone, fentanyl or fentanyl congeners in concentrations significantly in excess of conventional aqueous formulations, e.g., on the order about 2-fold to about 10,000-fold greater than conventional formulations, e.g., currently commercially available formulations.

Data-Assisted Content Programming

Inventors:
Min Woo Lee - New York NY, US
Tony San Lee - Palo Alto CA, US
Nicolas Remy - Palo Alto CA, US
Assignee:
YAHOO! INC. - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:

US Classification:
709224, 707102, 707E17116
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and apparatuses for data-assisted content programming are described. Link access data for a website is collected, such as numbers and times of views and clicks for links of the website, and link generated revenue information. The link access data is optionally stored. A link performance measure is generated for a link based on the link access data. An indication of the calculated link performance measure for the link is graphically displayed in a content scheduler. The indication may be based on an actual click through rate for the link, on an average click through rate for links in a module in which the link resides, link user engagement information, revenue generated by the link, or on other link access data. The content scheduler may display a website content schedule timeline or a webpage preview that includes the graphical indication.
