Collapsing a disclosed valve can provide convenient access to the sewing ring, such as for securing the valve to the implantation site, as well as for the insertion of the valve through relatively small surgical incisions.

A color-coded bioprosthetic valve system having a valve with an annular sewing ring, and a valve holder system with a holder sutured to the ring of the valve, a post operatively connected to the holder, and an adapter sutured to the post and having a color associated with the valve model and/or size. For example, the adapter may be blue to indicate that the valve of the system is a mitral valve of a particular type and/or size. The system may also include a flex handle that is configured to engage with the adapter. The handle has a color associated with the adapter such that a user is able to visually determine that the handle color matches the valve model. For example, the handle may have a grip that is colored blue to match the blue color of the adapter. Accordingly, the color-coded system enables users to confirm easily that the correct accessories such as the sizer or flex handle are being used with the correct valve.

The heart valve includes a substantially non-expandable, non-compressible prosthetic valve and a plastically-expandable stent frame, thereby enabling attachment to the annulus without sutures. The prosthetic valve may be a commercially available valve with a sewing ring and the stent frame attached thereto. The stent frame may expand from a conical deployment shape to a conical expanded shape, and may have a cloth covering its entirety as well as a plush sealing flange around its periphery to prevent paravalvular leaking.

A hybrid heart valve prosthesis that can be quickly and easily implanted during a surgical procedure is provided. The hybrid heart valve includes a substantially non-expandable, non-compressible prosthetic valve member having a peripheral sealing ring and an expandable stent frame projecting from an inflow end, thereby enabling attachment to the annulus without sutures. The stent frame may be plastically-expandable and may have a thin fabric layer covering its entirety as well as secondary sealing structures around its periphery to prevent paravalvular leaking. Other sealing solutions include interactive steps at the time of valve implant to establish seals around the stent and especially between the stent and the sealing ring of the valve member.

An inflow stent frame is expandable for anchoring the valve in place, and may have an outflow end that is collapsible to a limited degree for delivery and expandable post-implant to facilitate valve-in-valve (ViV) procedures. The hybrid heart valves eliminate earlier structural bands, which both reduces manufacturing time and facilitates ViV procedures.
