X-Ray Tube Targets Made With High-Strength Oxide-Dispersion Strengthened Molybdenum Alloy

View page
US Patent:
6707883, Mar 16, 2004
Filed:
May 5, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/429443
Inventors:
Srihari Balasubramanian - Clifton Park NY
Pazhayannur Ramanathan Subramanian - Niskayuna NY
Gregory Alan Steinlage - Milwaukee WI
Mark Ernest Vermilyea - Niskayuna NY
Liqin Wang - Brookfield WI
Assignee:
GE Medical Systems Global Technology Company, LLC - Waukesha WI
International Classification:
H01J 3510
US Classification:
378144, 378143
Abstract:
An X-ray target material comprising an oxide-dispersion strengthened Mo (ODS-Mo) alloy. ODS-Mo refers to molybdenum strengthened by a fine dispersion of insoluble oxide particles of one or more of the following compounds: La O , Y O and CeO. ODSâMo alloy improves upon the prior art by providing higher and more uniform strength and creep resistance over the applicable temperature range of large brazed graphite targets. This, in conjunction with higher-strength graphite, allows the target to spin faster without causing graphite burst, thus providing improvement in peak power. The recrystallization temperature of the fabricated material is high enough to maintain original properties through all target processing, including a very high-temperature braze cycle.

Target Attachment Assembly

H01J035/26
US Classification:
378144, 378125, 378128
Abstract:
An x-ray tube target assembly is provided. The assembly includes a target disc element having a target bore. A target shaft transmits rotational drive to the target disc element. The target shaft includes a plurality of axial adjustment slots formed in an upper portion. The plurality of axial adjustment slots are positioned around the target shaft to form a plurality of partial circumferential ribs. The plurality of partial circumferential ribs are brazed to the target bore.

Target Bore Strengthening Method

US Patent:
6947524, Sep 20, 2005
Filed:
May 2, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/249719
Inventors:
Gregory Alan Steinlage - Milwaukee WI, US
Liqin Wang - Brookfield WI, US
Assignee:
GE Medical Systems Global Technology Company, LLC - Waukesha WI
International Classification:
H01J035/10
US Classification:
378144
Abstract:
An x-ray tube target assembly provided. The target assembly includes a target plate element having an impact surface , a target rear surface , an inner target bore , and an outer target circumference. The target plate element defines a target plate depth between the impact surface and the target rear surface. The target rear surface is formed such that the target plate depth tapers from an increased target plate depth at the inner target bore to a decreased target plate depth at the outer target circumference. The target assembly further includes a graphite base element having a base upper surface and a base rear surface. The base upper surface is formed to mate with the target rear surface.

Electron Collector System

US Patent:
6980628, Dec 27, 2005
Filed:
Mar 31, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/708918
Inventors:
Liqin Wang - Brookfield WI, US
Michael Scott Hebert - Muskego WI, US
Mark Derakhshan - Brookfield WI, US
Ron Kent Hockersmith - Milwaukee WI, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
H01J035/18
US Classification:
378140, 378119, 378137
Abstract:
A slotted window collector assembly for an x-ray tube having an anode and a cathode includes a collector having an anode side and a cathode side, which opposes the anode side. The anode side and the cathode side define an internal bore there between for receiving x-rays from the anode. The slotted collector further includes a window side common to both the anode side and the cathode side and having a window coupled thereto, wherein a window aperture is defined extending from the window to the internal bore. Within the collector assembly, a slot is defined intersecting the window aperture and extending trans-axially thereto and beyond a set length. The slot also extends circumferentially with the window such that plastic strain on the window and heat transferred to the window are reduced.
