Pipe Freezer With Quick Connect Evaporator Heads

View page
US Patent:
6408638, Jun 25, 2002
Filed:
Aug 2, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/921353
Inventors:
Limin Chen - Melville NY
Assignee:
Spectronics Corporation - Westbury NY
International Classification:
F25D 300
US Classification:
62293, 62 66
Abstract:
A portable pipe freezer apparatus includes a condenser/compressor unit and a pair of flexible coaxial hoses each connected to an evaporator head with a set of interchangeable adapters configured with one or more nearly semicircular channels conforming to a standard pipe diameter. The adapters hold the evaporation chamber in a position such that the length axis of the chamber is aligned parallel to the axis of the pipe and the hose coupling is oriented perpendicular to the length axis of the chamber. Inside the chamber, a baffle placed between the outlet of the inner tube of the hose and the return to the outer tube forces refrigerant sprayed out of the inner tube to migrate from essentially the midway point of the chamber to an end wall and then back toward the midway point before entering the outer tube. In a preferred embodiment, the evaporation chamber is in the shape of a right cylinder closed by a pair of end plates, and is covered with a protective sleeve to protect the evaporation chamber from dents and scratches.

Interchangeable Adapters For Pipe Freezer Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
6598412, Jul 29, 2003
Filed:
May 21, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/152560
Inventors:
Limin Chen - Melville NY
Assignee:
Spectronics Corporation - Westbury NY
International Classification:
F25D 300
US Classification:
62293, 165 67, 180 684
Abstract:
A set of interchangeable adapters for coupling an evaporation head of a pipe freezer apparatus with pipes of different diameters is described. Each adapter includes a thermally conductive body having a first surface defining a first channel shaped and sized to securely and releasably receive the evaporation head. The body of each adapter also has at least one pipe-engaging surface defining a substantially semicircular pipe channel conforming to a selected standard pipe diameter. In a preferred embodiment, the set includes a plurality of adapter pairs, each adapter of a pair having pipe channels of the same radii as its mate and each pair having pipe channels of different radii than those of the other pairs. Thus, the set of interchangeable adapters is well suited for holding a pair of evaporation heads in thermal communication with pipes of several different diameters.

Multi-Cavity Evaporator

View page
US Patent:
55489656, Aug 27, 1996
Filed:
May 31, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/455235
Inventors:
Limin Chen - Dix Hills NY
Arthur J. Radichio - Hempstead NY
Assignee:
Spectronics Corporation - Westbury NY
International Classification:
F25D 300
US Classification:
62 66
Abstract:
An evaporator has an outer surface and inner chamber. The outer surface having at least two pipe receiving surfaces and a pair of ends. The evaporator has a bore extending from one of the ends to the inner chamber. A tube extends into the bore sealing the chamber, such that a refrigerant flows into the inner chamber through an inner tube and out of the inner chamber through the tube. Each of the pipe receiving surfaces having a distinct surface adapted for receiving different size pipes.

Meltable Fluorescent Dye For Leak Detection

View page
US Patent:
20210041322, Feb 11, 2021
Filed:
Aug 6, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/986638
Inventors:
- Westbury NY, US
Limin CHEN - Dix Hills NY, US
Assignee:
Spectronics Corporation - Westbury NY
International Classification:
G01M 3/22
G01N 21/64
C09B 57/08
C09B 67/02
C09B 67/42
Abstract:
A process for applying a fluorescent leak detection dye to a component of an air conditioning system. The process involves the steps of (i) providing a fluorescent dye that is solid at room temperature, (ii) exposing the dye to an elevated temperature to melt the dye into a liquid or flowable state, (iii) injecting, channeling, spraying or placing the flowable dye into or on a component or an HVAC or A/C system, (iv) allowing the dye to resolidify in or on the component, (v) attaching the component to the HVAC or A/C system, and (iv) dissolving the resolidified dye in a liquid/gas.

US Patent:
20160040818, Feb 11, 2016
Filed:
Aug 11, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/456502
Inventors:
- Westbury NY, US
Limin Chen - Dix Hills NY, US
Assignee:
Spectronics Corporation - Westbury NY
International Classification:
F16L 55/103
F25D 15/00
Abstract:
An evaporator cuff for use with a pipe freezer apparatus. The evaporator cuff includes a hose connector attached to an evaporator body. The evaporator body has an inner wall configured to engage the outer surface of a pipe, an outer wall spaced apart from the inner wall. A chamber is defined between the inner and outer walls, first and second side walls, and first and second end walls. A plurality of baffles are located in the chamber and arranged to define a series of conduits for creating a flow path through the chamber for refrigerant to flow along. The walls are arranged so as to form a serpentine flow path from the evaporator inlet to the evaporator outlet.
