Method And Apparatus For Obtaining Server Information In A Wireless Network

View page
US Patent:
7720024, May 18, 2010
Filed:
Mar 30, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/095973
Inventors:
Jun Wang - La Jolla CA, US
Raymond Tah-Sheng Hsu - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Qualcomm Incorporated - San Diego CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
370328, 370352
Abstract:
In a communications system where a mobile node seeks to establish contact with a server node within or outside the home network of the mobile node by first providing the general location information and the server type of the server node to a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server. The DHCP server then matches the provided information with its record in storage to arrive at an IP (Internet Protocol) address of the sought server node. The DHCP server then sends the IP address to the mobile node, thereby allowing the mobile node to directly access the server node.

View page
US Patent:
7751821, Jul 6, 2010
Filed:
Dec 9, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/331270
Inventors:
Ragulan Sinnarajah - Markham, CA
Jun Wang - La Jolla CA, US
Tao Chen - La Jolla CA, US
Assignee:
Qualcomm Incorporated - San Diego CA
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
455445, 455454, 4554353
Abstract:
A method for managing a point-to-point call initiated () between a wireless mobile station () and a remote party while the mobile is receiving broadcast content via one or more multi-user forward-link broadcast channels (). The mobile station notifies () the network () of preferences as to prescribed categories of operating conditions, such as whether to continue receiving the broadcast content, and election between the point-to-point call and the broadcast content should network resources be unable to conduct the point-to-point call and broadcast content concurrently. In accordance with the preferences, communications are conducted () in one of the following operating modes: (1) conducting the point-to-point call and discontinuing reception of the broadcast, (2) conducting the point-to-point call and continuing reception of the broadcast, (3) aborting completion of the point-to-point call and continuing reception of the broadcast.

Method And Apparatus For Delivering Information To An Idle Mobile Station In A Group Communication Network

View page
US Patent:
7890129, Feb 15, 2011
Filed:
Dec 12, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/020373
Inventors:

Jun Wang - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
H04B 7/00
US Classification:
455518, 455519
Abstract:
A method and apparatus provides for delivering information to an idle mobile station in a group communication network includes delivering the information to the mobile station in special form, e. g. , short data burst (SDB) form, if the information is smaller than a predetermined size limit. In one embodiment, the method and apparatus provides for encapsulating the information inside a frame, forwarding the frame to a server for delivery to the mobile station, and causing the server to extract the information from the frame and deliver the information to the mobile station on a forward common channel. In one embodiment, the method and apparatus provides for receiving information for delivery to the mobile station, the information being tagged for delivery on a forward common channel, and delivering the information to the mobile station on the forward common channel. In one aspect, the method delivers the information when the mobile station is in idle state with no traffic channel.

Method And System For Signaling In Broadcast Communication System

View page
US Patent:
7912485, Mar 22, 2011
Filed:
Sep 10, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/938712
Inventors:
Ragulan Sinnarajah - Markham, CA
Jun Wang - La Jolla CA, US

Abstract:
A method and a system for providing signaling in cellular telephone system providing broadcast services to fully integrate broadcast services with the services provided by the cellular telephone systems. The signaling method coordinate interaction between an access network and the subscriber station to allowing the subscriber station to decode the broadcast service, to receive paging messages while receiving the broadcast service, to properly transition between operation states, and other functions known to one of ordinary skill in the art.

Method And Apparatus For Broadcast Application In A Wireless Communication System

View page
US Patent:
7991396, Aug 2, 2011
Filed:
May 21, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/851504
Inventors:
Jun Wang - La Jolla CA, US
Ragulan Sinnarajah - Markham, CA
Sanjeev Arvind Athalye - San Diego CA, US
Sayed Hossain Beladi - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Qualcomm Incorporated - San Diego CA
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
4554351, 4554221, 455560, 370392, 370401
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided in which an origination station broadcasts a broadcast program to at least one of a plurality of destination stations. A first destination station (or a first group of destination stations) receives a first registration period parameter from the origination station. The first registration period parameter specifies a first period during which the first destination station must register with the origination station. The first destination station may block any attempted registration request that occurs outside the first period. Alternatively, the origination station can deny any attempted registration request by the first destination station that occurs outside the first period. If the registration request from the first destination station is sent before the first period begins, then the destination station can periodically request registration until a request is sent within the first period.

Location determination may be performed (as necessary) via a first set of network entities to obtain location information for a mobile station. The location information may be cached for subsequent disclosure to any number of applications. Location disclosure may be performed (when requested) via a second set of network entities to provide the location information. Location determination may utilize a first security procedure for authentication and authorization and to obtain a first session key used for location determination. Location disclosure may utilize a second security procedure for authentication and authorization and to obtain a second session key used for location disclosure. For a roaming mobile station, location determination may be performed via a serving network and location disclosure may be performed via a home network.

Bearer Control Of Encrypted Data Flows In Packet Data Communications

View page
US Patent:
8042170, Oct 18, 2011
Filed:
Jul 12, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/180131
Inventors:
Jun Wang - La Jolla CA, US
Raymond Tah-Sheng Hsu - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
QUALCOMM Incorporated - San Diego CA
International Classification:
G06F 9/00
G06F 7/04
H04L 9/00
US Classification:
726 13, 726 3, 726 4, 726 5, 726 6, 726 14, 713168, 713169, 713170, 713171, 713172
Abstract:
In a communication session in which data flows with encrypted data packets pass through a monitoring intermediary for data traffic control. The encrypted data packets include SPIs (Secured Parameter Indexes) which are used to identify SAs (Security Associations) for data decryption. During the initial signaling process for the communication session, the nodes seeking the communication session include the SPIs in the signaling messages and send the signaling messages through the monitoring intermediary which in turn matches the SPIs of the signaling messages with the corresponding SPIs extracted from the data packets. In enforcing data traffic control, the monitoring intermediary allows data flows to pass through if comparison matches in the SPIs are found. Otherwise, the data flows are rejected.
