System For Propagating Advertisements For Market Controlled Presentation

View page
US Patent:
7412405, Aug 12, 2008
Filed:
Aug 26, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/213271
Inventors:
Qingfeng Huang - San Jose CA, US
Daniel H. Greene - Sunnyvale CA, US
Juan Liu - Milpitas CA, US
Hermann Calabria - Mountain View CA, US
Assignee:
Palo Alto Research Center, Inc. - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
G06Q 30/00
US Classification:
705 14
Abstract:
A method for propagating advertisement for market controlled presentation among communication devices over a communication network accessed by service providers and an advertising service is stored and executed as an application for use by network devices. The method includes receiving advertising requests and bids from potential advertisers, with each bid including a presentation slot specification and a proposed amount of payment for presentation. Ranking information is computed from the bid, with the ranking reflecting the financial value of propagation of the advertising request to the advertising service. The method also provides certification of the advertising request, with certification including a signature of the contents of the advertising request, the requested presentation slot, and the ranking information. The certified advertisement is then propagated over the communication network.

Methods, Apparatus, And Program Products For Applying A Visibility Function To Networked Information

View page
US Patent:
7466664, Dec 16, 2008
Filed:
Sep 2, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/219234
Inventors:
Arpita Ghosh - Mountain View CA, US
Daniel H Greene - Sunnyvale CA, US
Qingfeng Huang - San Jose CA, US
Juan Liu - Milpitas CA, US
Assignee:
Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
H04L 12/26
US Classification:
370254
Abstract:
The disclosed technology uses a visibility function within a network environment that includes a set of nodes. At least one of nodes can directly transmit to one or more of a subset of the set of nodes. The visibility function characterizes a non-uniform resolution profile within the network environment that extends over at least one node outside the subset of nodes. The sent situation information is conditioned to propagate through the network environment according to the visibility function. The node can also receive situation information that includes a visibility parameter. Once the situation information is received, the node can evaluate the visibility parameter to determine whether the situation information is eligible for continued propagation through the network environment. If situation information is eligible for continued propagation the node then prepares to transmit the situation information.

Systems And Methods For Distributed Group Formation And Maintenance In Geographically Based Networks

View page
US Patent:
7562123, Jul 14, 2009
Filed:
Sep 5, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/655301
Inventors:
James E. Reich - Mountain View CA, US
Juan Liu - Milpitas CA, US
Jie Liu - Mountain View CA, US
Assignee:
Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
G01S 7/40
US Classification:
709208, 709205, 342174
Abstract:
In a distributed sensor network, one or more devices, for example, forming a collaborative group, are associated with a physical phenomenon based on geographical proximity. The sensor network is capable of detecting new phenomena and changing the membership of the collaborative group as the phenomenon changes. Sensors not associated with a detected phenomenon are available to detect new phenomenon, and one group may exist per phenomenon. Upon detection of a phenomenon, a group of nodes is formed and a leader node is elected. As the phenomenon changes over time, new devices come into proximity of the phenomenon and are prevented from forming independent groups associated with the phenomenon. This accomplished in a decentralized way with communication restricted to local neighbors. In a tracking sensor network using a relatively small number of sensors, the sensors are active and maintain a coherent belief associating their measurements with a single common vehicle.

Human-Machine-Interface (Hmi) Customization Based On Collision Assessments

View page
US Patent:
7710248, May 4, 2010
Filed:
Jun 12, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/818176
Inventors:
Daniel H. Greene - Sunnyvale CA, US
Juan Liu - Milpitas CA, US
James E. Reich - San Francisco CA, US
Assignee:
Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
B60Q 1/00
G08G 1/16
US Classification:
340436, 701301
Abstract:
One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates collision warning. During operation, the system receives information on one or more predicted collisions and determines a utility of issuing a warning for a predicted collision based on the received information. The system further schedules one or more warnings for the predicted collisions based on the utilities of issuing the warnings.

Information Dissemination System Having An Information Layer

View page
US Patent:
7720060, May 18, 2010
Filed:
Jul 3, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/428426
Inventors:
Daniel H. Greene - Sunnyvale CA, US
James E. Reich - San Francisco CA, US
Juan Liu - Milpitas CA, US
Marc E. Mosko - Santa Cruz CA, US
Qingfeng Huang - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370389, 455 91, 455 99, 709238
Abstract:
An information dissemination system has at least one node acting as a data source, at least one node acting as a data recipient, and an information layer residing on all of the nodes in a system. The information layer receives a generic utility function from an application on the node acting as a data source wanting to propagate information, uses the generic utility function at the node acting as data source to produce a microutility and uses the microutility on non-data source nodes of the system to propagate the information through the system to any recipients based upon the microutility.

Information Driven Routing In Ad Hoc Sensor Networks

View page
US Patent:
7720993, May 18, 2010
Filed:
Dec 17, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/736748
Inventors:
Juan Liu - Milpitas CA, US
Feng Zhao - Campbell CA, US
Assignee:
Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
G06F 11/00
G06F 15/18
US Classification:
709238, 370238, 37039532, 706 19
Abstract:
A sensor network routing is formulated as a joint optimization problem taking into account routing cost and information aggregation. Information gain is used explicitly to optimize the routing path. The optimization approach involves a shortest path algorithm in a modified network graph. A method is provided that routes queries from an arbitrary entry point to high activity network sensor regions using inputs from sensor nodes along the path to refine the message. The multiple step look-ahead approach provides deadlock avoidance and routing around sensor network holes. For point-to-point query routing, a method based on real-time A* (RTA*) search is provided to find a path which takes detours efficiently to maximize information aggregation. Future information expected to be gained along the path from an arbitrary node to an exit node may be estimated to allow the selection of a successor sensor node.
